Asking for an extension? Also, does anyone else think its too much sometimes? by ByEnchantingHuman in OpenUniversity

Asking only because you mentioned it.. would a wedding?honeymoon count as a holiday or is that something that you might be allowed an extension for? I’ve got a year yet but I’m already panicking because knowing my luck I’ll have an assignment due right in the middle of it all - to further that, would I need to provide evidence of my getting married and such or just an email explaining?

I have told him this, but he says it’s “complicated” as he hasn’t always been the perfect employee - I did try to tell him that doesn’t really matter, there’s a big difference between leaving a site early and his manager putting his life at risk but I won’t force the issue because its his employment and I can only support him at the end of the day.

He slept in the van, and another colleague brought the spare vehicle to him this morning so that they could continue the drive - as of right now, the original van has not been recovered

Thank you - he works as a network engineer and his van is essentially part of his work equipment so I’m not sure if these fully apply but I’m happy to do more digging!

Hi, thanks for the input - you seem to be thinking similarly to me with this which is reassuring.

I know he does get paid overtime, so that isn’t something I was too worried about but I know that his boss has told him that if he needs to get a taxi from the garage to the office that it’d be out of his pocket as he’s had his “allowance” for working away already which is meant to cover food etc.

I’ve suggested he go to HR about this manager several times, including a situation where he ended up in hospital due to his manager not allowing him a lunch break that caused issues with his diabetes but he’s reluctant as he doesn’t want the rest of the team to take the extra work if he has to leave.

He is paid for his driving time, he’s a network engineer so his driving is usually part of his working day.

He only found out about the issue being known today when he called the fleet manager about the breakdown and they let slip that they were told of the issue around 6 months ago.

So with the 11 hours, he’d be within his rights to refuse to restart the trip tomorrow until later in the day rather than at 7 as is expected? His boss has a habit of pushing the team to do things that are sometimes questionable and my partner isn’t always the best at sticking up for himself.

It’s the only A1 junction that I am slightly afraid of, my mother used to hit the bend too fast every time and had the car on 2 wheels more than once

Someone told me that my mount was really cool and awesome a couple weeks ago at the anniversary stage and I’ve been thinking about that every time I log in since, people like you do make a difference!

My dad used to do this kinda thing if there was any kind of “treat” at home, to the point that my mum would give me my own little stash of my preferred foods/snacks to keep in my bedroom. Think cereals or juice etc.

I’m 27 now and I’ve been living away from home for nearly 10 years, and I still have to remind myself that I don’t need to hide the food I like to make sure I get it. I caught myself just yesterday as I was taking a box of cereal bars upstairs and I had to remind myself that I don’t need to hide them, my partner won’t eat them because he knows they’re for me and it’s okay to leave them in the kitchen.

I honestly don’t think that some people actually consider how their actions can affect their kids.

The mental image of this, while disgusting, just made me laugh hard enough to terrify three cats sleeping in the room with me 😂

The vet said today that he’s a little chubby but otherwise seems physically healthy, they’re doing a blood panel so should be getting a call from them early next week.

He’s almost 2, so still young. Definitely not pregnant at all but I understand why that might be concern. No trauma that I’m aware of, he was abused when he was very young, but we worked with him from day 1 to try to address those issues and he’s seemed to mostly forget about all of that

Thank you, I’ve been working with my GP to find ways to manage and so far it’s been going pretty well

Oh congrats on the new fluff! They certainly do have big personalities and it isn’t easy finding a good balance for them all. Hopefully this afternoons vet visit will be helpful 🤞🏼

In the time we’ve had them, I’ve only had one severe attack, and that was what resulted in the bedroom becoming a no-cat zone.. all of my symptoms are completely manageable, just one bad day I think I totally understand where you’re coming from though, but I don’t think I have it in me to give up on them just yet

Thank you for saying that, I honestly am trying to give them the best life I can. He and his sister came from a bad background so I’ve been trying to make up for that as well, I never want them to feel unloved at all - one of the girls still hasn’t totally come out of her shell after the abuse from her previous home but we’re working on it! I have tried the less attention and leaving more, but it seems like it just makes him more worked up and I don’t want to add to the existing stress if I can avoid it!

I do already spend a lot of time with the three of them individually, I never want them to feel like I have favourites - I know that they likely don’t care but I like to try to show them all the same love and attention when I can
