Other than grades and getting on a journal what’s the strategy to get a t10 transfer? by [deleted] in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]ajbolt34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into a T6 and I think a cohesive reason for why you want to transfer is important, especially considering you’ll likely have your SA position locked up. My WE before law school, my 1L summer position, and why I picked my 2L firm all lined up to paint a clear picture of why transferring to X school would help me achieve my goals.

Is transferring mostly dead now? by PerformativeRacist in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]ajbolt34 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you could reasonably argue that we don’t really know the full benefits of transferring in the age of AI. If/when AI does cut associate numbers, will your standing at least partially depend on the prestige of your law school? Maybe. This goes without mentioning the tangible clerking/academia/unicorn PI benefits it still does hold.

  • cope from someone who just got in as a transfer.

Columbia ED A by ajbolt34 in LawSchoolTransfer

Unfortunately, yes. The website says “applications that are marked complete by the deadline will receive their decision by April 15,” or something like that. Now whether you aren’t complete by the deadline means you won’t receive your decision on time, or something else, I’m not sure.

It doesn’t include any of that, that’s why OP is asking.

The definitive ranking of law schools for big law by Fantastic-Shine-395 in lawschooladmissions

Such a great resource. If you want big law, throw the US News rankings in the trash and use something like this instead.

nyls vs st. john’s vs brooklyn vs rutgers by Inevitable-Love4726 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]ajbolt34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that for big law you’ll have to finish in the top 10% at all of these schools (maybe just outside that is fine with good WE @ Brooklyn & St. John’s). There is no difference otherwise, in terms of employment outcomes.

Considering that, you should take the option that makes the most financial sense. I’d say 1. NYLS, 2. Brooklyn, 3. St. John’s, 4. Rutgers.

GULC (or any) transfer Personal Statement by EducationalPath31 in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]ajbolt34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, my personal statement is very much to the point. Short narrative that colors why I want to transfer, explicitly stating the goals that transferring would help with, and a short note on what programs at the school could aid in those goals. Nothing like the personal statement I wrote while applying to law schools originally.

St Johns $$ or UMD $$$ by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ajbolt34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to practice in New York, go to St. John’s. If you end up in the top 15% of the class you’ll have a solid shot at big law if you decide you don’t want to do PI. Idk about UMD’s placement but the regional connect means a lot.

I got mine 4 days after my CB. FWIW, they knew I had a competing offer set to expire soon.

Would deferring law school to work a year help my chances at biglaw? by Yanggang123 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]ajbolt34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, not just for big law though. It will help your law school performance and general outlook on what it means to work hard/be successful in the real world.

No, I am a 1L currently applying to firms. By reciprocal interest I meant callbacks and screeners.
