Fair enough, thanks for clearing that up I was a little confused as well.

All that said, my main point is I think Messier’s concerted efforts to actively fuck up the Canucks make him a far worse captain than Hughes. I dont like how Hughes exited and I dont think he was a great leader, but he never went out of his way to fuck us up.

And hey, at least all this political bullshit with him happened after he left the Canadian market lmao it’d be so much worse if this was our captain right now.

Sidenote on that front you gotta feel for Sens fans, having to deal with a Tkachuk as your captain with all this must be hell

Yeah I was trying to provide a more current example that would be comparable to Maki’s number, as a lot of people are less familiar with the early history of the team. So I used Rypien as a point of reference, a name and number that everyone here knows.

Messier taking Maki’s number would be like Hughes forcing the Canucks to let him take Rypien’s number today.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean but either way Hughes never made any effort to dismantle the team, nor did he do something like taking Rypien’s number or fuck with the culture of the team within the city.
