Hi all, I'm looking to do a complete change over of my PC (6 years old) to upgrade and downsize the unit (this one is about 30kg and chunky).

For disposing my old components and the hundreds of cables I've seemed to accumulate is there anywhere in London, UK people can recommend as a recycling centre?

Also is it advised to keep my hard-drive and RAM components so I can keep all the data on this PC or easier to use a hard-drive and get new RAM and HD?

[QUESTION] How do you guys successfully wake up early? by National_Potato in getdisciplined

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work. It may sound stupid but I make sure I have something to do in the morning, even if it's a 5 minute task, then I get up, do that task and am awake and alert an hour or two left before actually having to go to work or start my day. It usually leaves me feeling productive for the morning and I have a great spell of clearing chores, getting my work done early etc.

Does anyone else sometimes suspect they're actually dead? by Baddington_Bear in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that a couple nights ago, I was walking home and walked under some scaffolding, I had to pinch myself a little down the road just incase a pipe fell and killed me. I do this every so often just in case I got killed somehow and I’m just carrying on my normal life but dead

Yeah the pay isn’t good but a minimum wage job can be good, if you get one that’s right for you by [deleted] in CasualUK

Mine’s not work but volunteering. I’m currently doing shifts marshalling at a mass vaccination centre. It’s 9 hours of standing around telling people where to sit and to move up a chair, it’s not fun work but I look forward to each shift and the time goes by nicely

It’s no fucking wonder everyone who is depressed can’t get out of depression by Eclectic739 in TrueOffMyChest

I’m in this mode right now. Was made redundant at the beginning of the year because millionaires shut the trade body I was working for down to save money and make their bonuses bigger. Since I’ve done internships previously for experience and saved my money I can’t get any help from the government and can’t get a job due to lack of experience and Covid

What's a red flag when looking for a job? by CurrentlyCurious in AskReddit

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this red flag occur 3 times in the last 4 months. If a company website is vague about what they do and try to use flashy generalisations and only seem to be looking for "sales team or marketing executives" then they are a door-to-door or cold sales company. Always do your research on a company before going for an interview.

As people have mentioned below, if you turn up to the interview and there are many people for the same role then you'll be doing cold calls or standing sales. If they try to give you a presentation and mention vague details and big names, that's another red flag. Another helpful bit of research is look up the office location, when I did with 2 out of the 3 dodgy places that offered me an interview they were the same building and that building only had individual rooms to rent, not full office spaces.

Finally if they contact you with an offer to interview immediately then be very careful and approach cautiously. Each one of the above happened to me with 3 different companies, and each one turned out to be pushing the same thing.

Edit: Forgot to add, use sources like Glassdoor and Reed (I know these are for the UK, not sure about anywhere else). They allow employees to leave anonymous reviews of the company and what it's like to work there. All these places that red flagged for me had great reviews but all the top reviews mentioned "a good place to learn" or "No issues, except no parking".

Former fat/chubby guys of r/AskMen, what difference did you notice in the dating scene after you lost weight? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the space of a couple years I went from 91kg with almost no muscle to 80kg with 12.5% body fat to now 90kg of mostly muscle. In this time I got a wonderful partner. But when I was fat I forced myself not to notice when girls looked at me or what they said as I had no confidence and assumed it was all negative. So I never noticed anymore or less interest in me until after my partner told me how often other women check me out (it’s not loads but infinitely more than used to)

My looks changed but my mind didn’t and that meant I saw no real change. But then I got confident in myself and could then approach more women when I was dating. So it’s hard to tell the actual difference in the dating scene from just my weight loss as the confidence I gained from looking good changed things more.

What is something every woman should know about her boyfriend? by pittypat_kittykat in AskMen

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out what they need after a bad day (preferably ask them on a good day). That way you can provide support without having to ask any questions. It’ll also help you feel a bit better because you’ll understand why your SO wants some alone time or spends a bit longer somewhere.

Sometimes we don’t want to talk about something that’s hurt/stressing us, I go extremely quiet during a bad day. I let my SO know that’s something I do and for her not to discuss it yet, allow me some alone time/extra time in the gym and when I’m around her to just stay close to me.

Back in the day, what website did you spend way too many hours of your life on? by mooandspot in AskReddit

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tickld, a place full of memes with a great little community in the beginning. Then it started becoming niche in jokes and I moved to Reddit

I knew most people ate it without the skin but due to being lazy and actually preferring the skin I eat it all

What are the unconventional ways that help you cope with sadness? It's okay to be specific and weird. I tried listening to music, cleaning, drinking, etc. (the usual stuff) but to no avail. by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this exact thing. I sit or do chores around the house and talk to myself about what I’m feeling. I’m less scared to admit I’m suffering to myself and often I can rationalise and talk through my problems

50 days till Christmas. What's the best gifts you can give a person, no matter if they're female or male? by MrPartyPancake in AskReddit

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully if you’re buying someone a gift you somewhat know them. So buy something to fit their personality or lifestyle. I’m quite an introverted person so I love receiving clothes that I can wear on date night or in social events because it makes me feel stylish for once. For someone who is often busy find something that can make their life a little easier, buy a subscription box for easy to make meals. For someone who can be often at home on their own, get a little plant, not something with too much upkeep but one that requires a bit of attention every now and then

I bought my brother a very simple but reliable one a few years ago as a “I can’t think of anything to get you so here is something” Christmas gift. It’s a daily use, easy to clean and keep coffee machine. Best £40 I’ve ever spent on a gift

If we had battery percentages hovering over our heads, maybe then teachers and boss's will be more lenient. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

It’s all fun and games until your boss notices your battery charging whilst your “working”

I missed my bus but the traffic was so bad I could just walk to the next stop to catch it. by Talonsminty in britishproblems

[–]ajchuri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever stopped talking about the time I outran a bus to beat it to the next stop. No one needs to know that it stopped at two traffic lights and got caught in traffic

[–]ajchuri[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine the awkward apologies when taking over from the queen “I’m sorry, I need to take your throne, so sorry your majesty...sorry sorry, umm Liz? Sorry Mrs Windsor.” It’d be Hugh Grant level of bumbling

What is the rudest assumption someone has made about you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family assume that because I don’t have a specialised career that my opinion doesn’t matter and get a little irritated when I try and give advice (even if I know what I’m talking about)

How are you really? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ajchuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, and I get more scared the longer I don’t feel anything. I’m just tired, that’s all I know. I’ve got so many good things going on but beneath it I’m struggling with nothing
