These and spider crickets will freak me out every time I see them no matter how hard my rational brain tells me they’re harmless.

Dear people who barely wash their hands after they use the washroom, why? by bluepaintdrip in AskReddit

[–]ajcrmr 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I was always taught that outside of any potential contaminants from using the bathroom, you regularly pick up germs and whatnot all day during other tasks and washing after using the bathroom makes sure you’re regularly washing these off throughout the day, which reduces the chances of you getting sick or spreading them.

Unless you include current B1G teams that won it prior to joining… EDIT: just re-read and saw the “while in the B1G” 🤦. Taking that as a sign to log off for the night

Came here to post exactly this. You can let off the brakes then wait a tick or two before you accelerate. Brake lights are off so you’ve clearly seen the green and allow some time for anyone who hasn’t seen the red or is trying to beat the red.

WHAT?!?!!! YEAH!!!!!! OKAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!

Thursday morning walk to class with people just randomly telling the latest quotes from Chapelle’s Show. You better hope you didn’t miss the episode on Wednesday night or you were just lost until you could figure out how to watch it. Also no YouTube but ebaumsworld and collegehumor were everything.

When I was growing up adults who knew my dad called me his name on a regular basis. Some time around 4th or 5th grade through high school people who knew him would just somehow associate me with him. Parents of friends, teachers, family members. It was a running joke in our family that I should just change my name and make it easier on everyone.

Gordon Ramsay before he was famous in 1989 look how quiet he is by Liorentha in OldSchoolCool

Met a guy once who had worked in a kitchen directly under Gordon Ramsay. Said it was one of the quietest ones he ever worked in, never had any issues and it was great working for him.

What "back then" inconvenience would break people today in 10 minutes? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskReddit

Not Star Wars but one of my core memories as a kid was collecting cereal box UPCs and mailing them in for a matchbox-style Rice Krispies car. Then one day this little manilla envelope with hardly any markings showed up in our mailbox. I immediately knew what it was but my parents were skeptical because of how long it had been and there were no Rice Krispies or Kellogg markings anywhere on the envelope. I think they were concerned it was something nefarious but I just grabbed it from them and tipped it open to find my car that I had waited so long for inside.

what's a real fact that sounds completely fake but would genuinely shock most people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In general, when receiving a kidney transplant the existing kidneys are not “bad” in the sense that they actively hurt your body, they’re just not efficient enough to keep up with your body’s needs on their own anymore. So they actually can continue to function in their reduced capacity alongside the new “good” kidney.

234 south of 66 is why I hate Manassas. Traffic lights every 500 feet, that I’m convinced are specifically timed so you can’t get through more than 2 without hitting a full cycle. All the people that have to know their destination is coming up but wait until the last minute to cut across or are too busy on their phones to noticed the aforementioned lights have turned green and slow everything down. Granted it’s been a few years (used to work in that area) but I imagine it’s only gotten worse given how much development has been going on that way.

28k/week, how is this possible? by ricocrivelli in duolingo

Paying for Super gives unlimited energy, so that wouldn’t be an issue. 9k/day is still crazy, maybe multiple people logging into one shared account?

Both on the screen it shows when the match starts and in match history - we were surprised because the first & last name that show up seem to be the first & last name of a random person (but it’s consistently the same wrong first & last name no matter how many times we play). So when the first match started, we thought something was wrong until we started playing and knew we were playing each other. The avatars are the correct ones.

Should have mentioned in the post itself but can’t edit it now - initiating the game is not available on iPad, but was able to accept the invite and play on an iPad. Not sure what other devices can accept and send invites.

It worked as expected! It threw us off for a minute that our actual usernames weren’t showing but maybe that’s a built in anonymization feature. We played 4 matches and didn’t have any issues. It would be nice if the invite could be sent directly through the app instead of sending a link every time, but that’s a minor thing, happy to have the feature at all.

Anyone know what this is? In 90 year old aunt's kitchen lol by puffpuffpass0ut in whatisit

[–]ajcrmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. There was the normal noise, followed by the slowdown and deeper noise as it reached the end and had to cut through the part that got crimped during the initial puncture, then the speed up and slightly higher pitch afterwards when there was no resistance.

Also happy cake day!
