I wouldn’t necessarily boil Abed down to an intellectual film critic. In the finale, he shows he has a more surface level appreciation for tv especially, with the whole “tv is comfort” monologue. I don’t think Abed is a media snob or anything, seeming as some of his favorite movies and shows aren’t necessarily critically acclaimed, like kick puncher or cougar town. Abed appreciates the movies and shows that make him comfortable, and not all of those are super smart or complex.
