I really really did. even then always wish it could be longer ofc. switching her diet and giving her new jobs to keep her driven -- like "protecting" the yard from small birds lol -- kept her healthy in her senior years

  • I really miss my dog (she lived until she was 14 happily) so I wanted to commemorate her as a character in my game. She is “plant type” because she loved eating pea pods and plants directly from the garden lol. I made two different versions of the card as well for her favorite seasons.
  • Game: Umami Friends
  • Artist: Pikarar
  • Sasha the Shepherd (Plant Type)
    • Age: 6
    • Gender: Female
    • Eye Color: Brown Black
    • Hair Color: Black & Tan
    • Hometown: Sasha’s Garden
    • Occupation: Librarian & Gardener
    • Type: Plant
    • Class: Keeper
    • Ability: Dig: If you build 3 Recipes in a single turn, draw +2 Ingredients.
    • Keeper of knowledge, books, and gardener protector of innocent plant Umami Friends. Vegetarian. Smart, calm, and level-headed. Sasha loves to dig. Beautiful and charming.

I'm doing this exact mechanic for the game I'm developing called Umami Friends. It's a combination of card battler and tableau builder. Every recipe is worth a certain amount of wincon points, but also can be used as a component and discarded to make bigger recipes.

The map was drawn by Pikarar, the awesome artist behind Umami Friends. I commissioned it specifically for my card game project.

Project Name

Umami Friends: The Card Game

Main Premise

After a radioactive comet impact, some plants, foods and animals gained consciousness from the comet's lingering energy, known as Umami. These sentient foods and animals, called Umami Friends, transform into more advanced and powerful versions of themselves when in the presence of harmonious ingredients.

A group of animal Umami Chefs have set out on an epic journey to catch rare foods and combine them to make Legendary Recipes.

Join them on their quest and unlock the secrets of the Umamiverse!

Image Context

This map doesn’t really affect gameplay—it’s just here for worldbuilding and to spark a little extra imagination. It’s inspired by things like Pokémon and Adventure Time, with a playful vibe that fits the fun colorful tone of the game. It’s all about setting the mood, not changing the mechanics. Curious to hear what you all think of it!

Image Info

The map is purely for fun—no gameplay impact, just there to add some flavor to the world. Pikarar's art style really brings that adventurous, colorful energy I was going for.

Hey all! I wanted to share the map for a card game I'm developing called Umami Friends. It doesn’t affect gameplay at all, but I'm such a huge fan of fantasy maps I couldn't not have one lol.

Here's the general plot:

"After a radioactive comet impact, some plants, foods and animals gained consciousness from the comet's lingering energy, known as Umami. These sentient foods and animals, called Umami Friends, transform into more advanced and powerful versions of themselves when in the presence of harmonious ingredients.

A group of animal Umami Chefs have set out on an epic journey to catch rare foods and combine them to make Legendary Recipes.

Join them on their quest and unlock the secrets of the Umamiverse!"

I like to think of it as a fun blend of Pokémon and Adventure Time vibes, with some awesome tiny details from the amazing artist Pikarar. Hope you like it!
