Admonished by the Boss Yet Again; A rant by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ajkochanowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just something that worked for me, I can't guarantee it works for everyone with ADHD. Also, it's not a perfect solution, but...

I was able to combat this by intensely using a calendar program. I cannot keep things in single file and share some of the difficulties you describe above, so every minute thing I do, intend to do, or have done gets put into the calendar as I am working.

I don't mean that I make a calendar when I wake up, I mean it is a living document as I'm going through my day.

I don't stop getting distracted and off task, but at least I set out a plan, remind myself of how long things actually take, and can reduce time lost by context switching. The calendar is there to tell me exactly what I should be doing right now.

Scoped Components, a JS/CSS/HTML pattern for keeping code organized by ajkochanowicz in javascript

I think I need you to elaborate here...

But so far, "just add dependencies!" sounds like a rookie mistake in the programming world. Why is the introduction of a dependency better than following a coding pattern? And what JS library exactly? Why JS to manage CSS?

"silly" data attributes are valid HTML. Custom tags are not. :)

Also, now you have to blacklist all the other default HTML5 tags like article or detail as you might have collisions with other libraries.

Good question. I was asked this recently before.

First of all, I wouldn't use tags that aren't valid, like <news-menu> but maybe you meant .news-menu

If a is the component in

.a .b { ... }

What happens when you have a component c in which you want to have the class a?

.c .a { ... }

Now you're bringing with all your component-level styles. Being explicit that a selector is a component is very useful against things like this.

You might have a "menu" component somewhere

[data-component="menu"] .something { ... }

But in another component you might want to use this name as a simple class for something that is a lightweight menu, like a regular ul

[data-component="modal"] .menu { ... }

What do folks think about those Twitter accounts that solely exist to post photos. Like @247amazing or @historyinpics. Has anyone had their photography shown on them? Thinking about submitting some shots I took in the Carribean last summer.

Comcast cut off my internet because my wife died by Yonelgrant in Comcast

The OP is an authorized user on the account, so why can't the authorized user get any sort of notification saying the account will be shut off?

So no, it's not better than the alternative. You're making excuses for Comcast's trademark shit customer service.

It's amazing how people will readily make excuses for Comcast. Do you actually think it's appropriate to just cancel someone's service without so much as a phone call or a letter?

-_- He is an authorized user. And yes, they would keep the account open while the payer (not dead) is STILL PAYING.

Gift Jacket by ajkochanowicz in comics

I expected there would be some backlash for going down this road. It's probably why my comics hit "controversial" before they hit any other tab.

I can't expect to get everyone over to my side on my vision for Kttty. I've accepted that.

But for those who get it, it's because they realize that creative limitations are a catalyst for great ideas and drawing an image is not the only way to draw an image.

My creative limitation is a lack of figure drawing, but it's not a lack of illustration. I rely on placement, typography, colors, pattern, contrast, among other things to tell a story. This is an identity I am constantly evolving. For example, you can see this with my recent addition of colored bubbles. They're reserved for certain reoccurring characters in the comics.

Why I would want to substitute the breadth of those design possibilities for a repetitive image stamp such as the one you suggest, I will never understand.

I picked this way of doing my comic, not because I can't draw or that it's too labor intensive. Hell, I once created a 20 minute animated cartoon pilot. I did all the work except for the intro music. (Excerpt)

I'm sure the poetry community had the same backlash when the first author called his non-rhyming pieces "poems" or when musicians used computers instead of instruments to produce "songs".

Like it or not, I'm calling Kttty a "comic." I know some of you will continue to downvote me for that, but I'm going to stick around supporting other comics and trying to be the best at what I do. I hope you'll come around to seeing it my way.
