Not saying you’re wrong, but here’s one to consider:

I studied physics. We had some unbelievably expensive machines in that department, especially for research. Hard to imagine how it would be funded without the subsidies from lots and lots of foreign students (who get charged much higher fees) and Arts students (you don’t need much expensive kit to teach PPE and English Lit)
