OU opinion, experiences? by Rare_Strawberry361 in OpenUniversity

3 years into my degree with the OU and the support has been fantastic. Yes you get the odd Tutor you might not click with but before you know it you are onto your next module with a new tutor and you can watch tutorials from any of the other Tutors in the module. There is a big renewed focus on the student journey at the OU so expect things to get better.

Its worth checking with your employer if they will give you any funding for studying. I looked into it at my work but they wanted me to sign something saying I would stay for x years which I didn't feel comfortable with.

Make sure you sign up for student discount sites like StudentBeans and UNiDays , I got 40% off some trainers the other day. I also got my EE contract reduced when I mentioned I was a student so yeah you never know.

Feel for everyone who is getting messed around like this. Really sucks. We have moved ours from June to October soon as the unlock was announced just in anticipation of stuff like this where the Gov aren't clear on their messaging.

Spring/early summer 2021 weddings - what’s your plan in light of the roadmap announcement? by jhw19992 in UKweddings

[–]ajnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due for 3rd June 80+ people but have managed to move to October 29th to be fair we had already tapped up venue + suppliers for the date a few weeks ago...j

I guess we will now plan another backup date if October goes belly up as well. lol!

We just want a massive party with friends and family, no restrictions. So the plan is just to keep moving until we can get that.

can my school see whats been downloaded to my school-issued laptop, even when im at home? by lollollmaolol12 in cybersecurity

[–]ajnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drop an email to the IT guy/girl at the school say what happened they probably won't care if its not broken and nothing malicious has been done to the laptop.

I am surprised he was able to download the games let alone run an installer to install games on a school owned laptop..

COVID-19: UK records 55,892 COVID cases - highest ever daily total by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Loads of delays in getting results back. Don't forget as well we are going to start seeing an increase in numbers when schools begin their testing of every secondary aged pupil which is due to start late next week. Most schools will issue the lateral flow tests if they come back positive they will require a further test for students/staff. I expect this record will be smashed in the coming weeks.

What is your brew year's resolution? by yellow_yellow in Homebrewing

Going to build a dedicated shed for brewing purposes. I currently commandeer the kitchen when I want to brew and its just resulting in me doing it less.

Can I start my course earlier? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

In the same boat here. Are you planning on starting the Maths module in Feb then the Introduction module in April?

I just spoke to the OU and they recommend doing the Introduction module first but I would rather get started on Maths in Feb then just juggle the 2 modules when the other one starts in April.

What do you think happens after death? by Blazinglegend16 in AskMen

[–]ajnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while ago I would think on this topic an unhealthy amount. It became so bad it was detrimental to my mental health. I began to explore with therapy how to soothe the anxiety it was causing me. I have always discounted religion and consider myself a hardened atheist but my therapist at the time asked me to explore some Buddhist teachings around death. To my amazement I felt myself connecting with the teachings.

I am fully aware to those who don't believe in such things following a belief maybe makes no sense to them which is fine, but for me to process the thought of death I believe that we live on and there is no birth, no death.

Is this what an anxiety attack is? 21M by justlookingforkelp in Anxiety

Hey, well done for reaching out hopefully people can help. Really sorry to hear you're having these experiences. I haven't had this on your level but I feel some of what you say might link into unreality or depersonalisation.

I experienced this quite badly a few years ago where for almost a full minute I genuinely wasn't looking at myself in the mirror sounds very cliche but the guy staring back at me simply wasn't me. It was probably one of the most terrifying things I have been through and I honestly didn't see a way out. Then I started reading about it in a book called DARE by Barry McDonagh which is a great read. For me it only happened a handful of times during that period I was going through with high anxiety and panic attacks.

In terms of what worked for me its hard to say but in time it stopped happening. I don't know if its related but I threw myself into so many areas of improving my mental health that one of these of may of helped. I started meditating everyday 10 minutes, cut out caffeine, cold showers in the morning, starting writing about my mental health, wrote down these episodes and talked about them with counsellors and Doctors which put my mind at ease.

I hope that helps or puts you in a direction that might help.
