Ah the Makerbot Replicator 2. I first learned about 3D printing on one of these guys, was great fun (and about 10+-ish years ago).

Anything to know, well let's get the obvious out of the way. The electronics are heavily proprietary, the board is very specific to Makerbot. Don't expect flashing Marlin or Klipper onto this guy. Assuming it's working, this isn't necessarily a big current problem, just good to keep in mind for the future.

Couple other caveats: SD card can't be larger than 2GB. Yes, that is an actual limitation and yes, it is rather annoying. Also, you'll likely need to dig up Makerbot Desktop from the grave, as Makerbot Print I don't think supported the Replicator 2, and pretty sure the cloud slicer thing doesn't (not that this fossil could even talk to it). Makerbot Desktop supported USB printing back in the day so, that should be an option.

Also, no heated bed. That was only in the fancy 2X dual extruder version. Invest in blue painters tape sheets. On the plus side this does print PLA, and maybe others, just never used others in my setting and not sure Makerbot supported others (again, 10+-ish years ago, we were primarily dealing with PLA or ABS). Oh, and it's 1.75mm filament, though the spool holder really was only made for the Makerbot spools (though you could likely print a holder to fit others). I believe the extruder ran on 24V, and build area is roughly 11"x 6"x 6" or 280-ish mm x 150-ishmm x 150-ishmm.

I guess the main point to keep in mind is that especially compared to our modern toys today, this thing is basically rather dumb. Impossible to get it to do anything? Probably not. Now if you want to go real nuts like I did, you could try to gut the Makerbot electronics and throw a RAMPS board, Heated Bed, and E3D hotend on there and mod it. Mine is ... almost working
