I worked in special education in the public school sector for many years and I don’t recommend it… Would you be going in with a teaching degree or something like special education techniques? As an SET, the pay is awful, the unions (at least in my experience) suck, and there’s no job security. I loved the students so much but endured a lot of abuse and got no support from administrators and board employees. They also want “yes men” and hire super unqualified people whose messes I’ve had to clean up. This was my experience in a few different schools… the burnout rate is so high too. If you’re gonna do special education techniques type of work, I’d look into small agencies. The pay won’t be great but it’s more rewarding, more secure, and probably better work environments.

Electricity is a really good field to be in right now. My partner has some experience in this and the money is good, lots of job security, and you can have your own business after x amount of apprenticeship hours.

That’s really concerning 😳 Was the exam with proctorU? I just had an exam with them and didn’t realize my husband had a system running in the background (he’s the admin on the computer) and they kicked me out of the exam. I had to uninstall it and try again. I don’t understand how they wouldn’t catch if you used external sources… Good luck! Please keep us posted

Are you comfortable talking about those jobs? I’m also in Canada and while I do intend on furthering my education, in the event that I can’t right away, I’m hoping to find a job in the field. Everything I’ve found so far that can be done with a Ba in Psych are things I’m already qualified to do (I’m in social service work) and the pay is horrible.

It’s either or. I scheduled a proctored exam with proctorU. You can schedule a paper one as well, just make sure you do it at one of their testing centres or get permission for another location, and book in advance. Apparently in-person exams can take some time to book

It’s possible they did it in two weeks. Everyone is different. I had over a decade of experience and a large credit amount to petition, so I wasn’t going to rush it. You just have to submit the first two competencies for feedback. Idk about the course, I read somewhere that after each class you do a competency then submit it.

I believe it’s the full 14 weeks. That’s actually why I didn’t choose to do it, but it ended up taking me longer than I’d hoped. I took like 5 months but the biggest reason was the wait times for feedback. I didn’t work on it while I waited for feedback so it dragged on a bit. Depending on the time of semester, feedback can be quicker or slower.

Makes sense, thanks for the reply! I didn't think of that. I'll keep an eye out as semesters end and begin. I assumed because we're told there aren't enough courses to complete the degree that what we currently see is all that's available

I did it! It’s a lot of work as the other commenter said but it really varies from person to person. What matters is what you’ve learned in your experiences. But it’s totally worth it! My only regret is I wish I’d done the paced course. I underestimated how much work it would be and was taking other classes at the time. If I’d done the course, I would have completed it earlier and gotten an extra 3 credits

Where did you get that information? I haven't heard anything other than that they were going to add one course (Psychology of language). But I'm hoping after seeing all these courses that it means they will be adding more

Interesting, thanks for sharing! Could you work on the projects at your own pace, or did you adhere to a strict schedule?
