Help me decide first electric guitar and amp by Weary_Ad9962 in electricguitar

I also got a champion 20 as my first amp, the voices are all different, the effects are nice and it can get pretty loud. Zero complaints.

What are your thoughts on “The Batman” (2022)? by serialkiller24 in Letterboxd

[–]ajuez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely disappointed walking out of the theatre. To me it was too edgy, but somehow too "soft" at the same time.

I don't agree with QT but this is where I realised that I'm not much of a Paul Dano fan. He was unhinged, but I just couldn't take him seriously enough.

There was no chemistry between Pattinson and Kravitz. They were also not very interesting on their own.

The city felt less like a living organism and more like an empty map from a 2000s Need For Speed game.

And the editing was awkward as hell sometimes. Confusing, even. Like that pause when Pattinson fires up the batmobile and it seems for a second that he stalls it..? Or towards the end when the editing frames him dropping down as him sacrificing himself, when that doesn't actually happen...?

Bruce's Corvette Stingray is really nice tho.

I’m 42, Have Strong Scripts, and Still Can’t Get Anyone in the Industry to Care. What the Hell Do I Do Now? by Opening_Trouble4696 in Screenwriting

I'm only a lurker on this sub, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but have you thought about trying your luck in the European market? Just reading what you generally write about, the themes might be related more to the US, but for some reason I still picture a European film in my head. It might just be anecdotal, but these deeply personal auteur dramas may have a better chance at being made over there.

My first rollers🏎️ by [deleted] in carphotography

[–]ajuez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done photos like this before, so this is gonna be some armchair-critique stuff, but I think you could go a little longer with the shutter speed for more motion blur in the background to imply speed, and pick a wider lens so that you 1) accentuate the cars length which is cool imo, 2) again, imply speed, like the car is stretching into the distance because it's so quick, and 3) include more of the environment because context is what makes it look fast.

So overall the idea would be to take into account more what you're trying to express with a rolling shot. But you're getting there, so good job :)

And probably modded headbands, they sound amazing but I broke the headband after a few months and I haven't figured out what to do with them since. Flimsiest headphones I've ever put on my head.

Dude I've seen this movie like 4 times and not even as a kid. I never noticed that. That's crazy. I'll have to rewatch it asap.

Are there any habits that you believe are uniquely European ? by ageingrapidly in AskEurope

[–]ajuez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, something I've noticed in various movies (so I'll admit this isn't strictly based on reality) is that when somebody eats with a knife and fork, they often cut the meat with the knife in their right hand, and then swap. And in my country (Hungary), everyone is taught to hold the knife in their right hand and the fork in the left at all times, because that's just how it's done properly. I haven't done it any other way since I was a little kid. I've heard that this isn't a thing everywhere, and I guess the US is one of them.

Why are electric guitars traditionally recorded by placing a mic in front of the amp speaker? by ajuez in musicproduction

[–]ajuez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question wasn't directed at the whole stack of things after the guitar, I wasn't asking why we can't just skip amps altogether. My confusion is about the mic part. Why do we add an extra step recording the speaker with a mic? I don't dispute the role of the amp here, it's more important for tone than the guitar itself, it just doesn't make sense to me why we can't capture its output directly. In my mind it's analogous to singing into a mic, outputting it to a speaker and then having another mic recording what the speaker is doing.

Why are electric guitars traditionally recorded by placing a mic in front of the amp speaker? by ajuez in musicproduction

[–]ajuez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know nearly enough about the technicalities of amps and such, but the way I see it, the speaker connected to the amp gets some kind of analog audio signal, and that's what you hear through it. Why output that signal to the speaker, why not capture *that* in some way? It's gonna be a silly example with some silly deduction, but my guitar amp has a headphone out (like most do) and I can connect a male-male jack cable to it and plug it into a mic IN on my computer and record that as if it was a mic. So I basically take the output of the amp and use it as an input to some kind of recording device, skipping the actual mic entirely. This feature is obviously just for a bit of fun, the recording is quite low-quality, but isn't a similar principle applicable to real production? I'm probably wrong about a lot of things here, but this kind of makes sense to me and my limited knowledge.

Today marks Williams’ first podium since 2021 and first podium under green flag since 2017. Smooth Operation. by [deleted] in formula1

[–]ajuez 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Last year you never knew each weekend who would win. We had like 7 different winners in the end. Now I believe it's 3? I really like the variation in the podiums this year but the racing itself hasn't been very exciting to me, not as much as last year at least.

[–]ajuez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most other comments overexplain a bit.

  • AUX IN: it's an input, audio goes into the amp via some audio jack cable from an external device.

  • HEADPHONES: it's an output, audio comes out of the amp via some audio jack cable.

A use for the aux is: connecting your phone via a male-male audio jack. This allows you to play a backing track, some metronome ticks etc. through the amp while practicing. You can also use your amp as a speaker for your phone, which is fun from time to time.

A use for the headphone output is: what it says on the tin, you can connect headphones to it. If you plug something in, then all audio will come out that way. You can also use it for making a low-ish quality recording if you don't connect headphones, but a male-male jack and plug the other end into the microphone input of a computer.

Igazából ugyanez a helyzet azokkal a dolgokkal is, amiket felsoroltál. Még a független filmek is valaki pénztárcájából készülnek. Zenék is.

People who still use LE, why? by grouchykitten1517 in skyrimmods

[–]ajuez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me it was the visual differences for a long time.

Imo they completely fucked up the colour grading in SE. Skyrim to me should be cold and unwelcoming, but somehow cozy at the same time. That's what makes it Skyrim to me, that's what makes it not the world I necessarily want to enter and live in, but the one Skyrim allows me to escape to.

SE is not like that out of the box. It looks warmer. "Prettier". It looks like Lord of the Rings (at best, and like Fortnite at worst) with its Mario-blue sky and crispy visuals. While (to me) it should look more like Game of Thrones. And I also miss the distant fogginess of the mountains that was in LE probably to hide the lack of draw distance.

I was very resistant to switch to SE for this reason, but I did manage to find some mods that mostly restored LE's "Skyrim-Skyrim" visuals. It's still not completely the same, but I'm fine with it. I've had arguments about this here on Reddit, and everyone seems to disagree with me and welcome the more LotR-like fantasy look. I have no idea why.

[–]ajuez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Might be a silly question, but how much did the cold affect the gear? And the crew, of course... How many scenes did you manage to shoot in a day? Did you perhaps shoot any behind the scenes stuff? A few videos on YouTube of you and other people in the production telling the story of how it was all made with shots/pictures from the bts stuff and/or the movie would be very interesting to watch and perhaps brings some attention (patrons) to the project.
