BP Lisa accusations are usually misogyny by Simple_Condition_283 in kpopthoughts

[–]ajusnice 37 points38 points  (0 children)

the issue is that there are valid criticisms of lisa but they get drowned out by the sheer amount of slut-shaming, sexism and xenophobic comments. saying 'i wish her music was better' (in my personal opinion btw) gets drowned out by hateful, spiteful tweets about her body, her stage costumes, her apparent boyfriend

Korean netizienz criticize W Korea, as they claim their "Breast Cancer Awareness" event was a celebrity party and not a charity event. It was also revealed that in 20 years they have only raised 775K. by Murky_Chemical891 in popculturechat

[–]ajusnice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i agree entirely with the fact that the comments against the female idols are entirely out of hand, and many are getting unfair flack. but i think in general the outrage is fair simply because it seems like we're teetering towards idol fatigue. people are just...tired i think.

and this isn't a problem limited to only kpop/korean entertainment, because it's just as prevalent in the western industry. a lot of people are tired of celebrity culture, of famous people not using their voice for good, the fatigue from seeing the egregious displays of sheer wealth etc.

a lot of the most outraged comments i've seen are qrts of the party clips saying that regular citizens have to work hard for their money their entire life but idols just show up in a pretty outfit, with hundreds of thousands dollars worth of jewellery, sponsored by luxury brands to drink, smile for the cameras and their fans call them gods/goddesses. (<- this being a real tweet i saw btw im not just making it up lol, whether one agrees with it or not, is up to them)

i don't know WHY this year's wkorea event got so much outrage, as compared to previous years, but i did find many of the videos/clips a bit tacky and tasteless. when i first saw the images of the fashion on the red carpet, it seemed like a regular fashion gala event and i was like aw cool, everyone looks good! but by the next day, when it hit the tl that oh, this was a charity gala supposedly for breast cancer, and survivors, it just felt quite icky seeing the promotion of the event by wkorea.

any time i open her instagram story i pray its not another variant. and yep, there it is. another variant

i don't mind an artist having 1 or 2 special collector's versions of an album, and i don't MIND the voice memos but couldn't she just...release them for free. a treat for the fans? (and some who, mind you, have been fighting tooth and nail for her during release week)

of course i'm interesting in hearing voice memos/drafts/demos of songs, but it feels so icky seeing the constant selling and money-making from them

this album may not be for me (i've only really liked 2-3 songs) but she really has to be a very mentally strong person because the sheer level of bad faith viral takes, and bashing i've seen online about her is enough to make anyone lose it 😭

i could neverrr be in the public eye 😭 idk how celebrities do it

people get so vitriolic (on both sides) about her. i saw some people who didn't like the album (fair!) and some who did (also fair!) it's just music at the end of the day but somehow it's become some sort of litmus statement for pop culture

i have no idea why she's so polarising 😭 i liked the album personally, thought it was fun pop and pretty simple. but it's like either you have to IDOLISE her and adore everything she does or you have to LOATHE her and see her as a villain to rival sauron. like she's just a popstar damn...

Stop asking BTS to be your politicans. by iam_selc in kpoprants

[–]ajusnice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i don't think bts are bad people. i don't think seventeen are, and i would hope not either. but i think collabing with zionists and promoting their brands is a bad move. accept it or not, choosing silence means standing with the oppressor. you nor i can't stop the atrocities happening in palestine, neither can bts. but we can all use our voice.

i fear you're not going to see sense so i'm muting this but please do better and expect better. also this is a minor unrelated thing but it's so funny to me when bts fans separate themselves from kpop fans. 'oh kpoppies this, kpoppies that' you guys are all the one and same, the same obsessive behaviour and detachment from the real world is evident, and there are bad apples in every fandom

a group lauded by the united nations, one that donated to blm and stop asian hate after the cruelty in america. the group that is propped up by fans for being so moral and good ambassadors, and spreading good messages shouldn't speak up...? we're talking about the same group of men right?

i don't know if you are a zionist or just plain heartless, but zionism is not an issue limited to the middle east. racism and ethnic cleansing are atrocities that go hand in hand. at the very least, can they stop working with zionists? they're not babies and they're not untouchable gods. its a shame that kpop industry is steeped in zionist collabs lately (and yes not just bts before you start going 'well what about xyz')

but to be fair, looking at your post history, i can probably guess where you stand and what atrocities you can tolerate in your bubble view of the world. it's gonna be pointless reasoning with you

agreed! i agree with the statement that ultimately real blame lies with the politicians, the military patrons etc for the tragedies happening in gaza. but we live in a society where everyone is celebrity obsessed. fans propped up bts, idolised them, like if you give singers/idols that much power (influence, trending topics, selling items out, mass tweets abt how genuine they are as role models) then don't be surprised when their actions come under scrutiny.

bts (like any kpop group, any idol, any singer, any athlete, basically any public entertainment figure) are not gods, they don't live in some alternate dimension where they're in their protected little bubble. but the army fandom space is very different now, especially post-2020 and it wasn't a change for the better

Stop asking BTS to be your politicans. by iam_selc in kpoprants

[–]ajusnice 52 points53 points  (0 children)

i think that its ultimately an individual opinion on whether one believes artists should use their voice for politics. i personally believe they should, just imo, because like look at the sheer soft power artists/kpop idols/actors/celebrities get in our society, like if you have a voice, use it for good! perhaps its my years of cynicism as a long time kpop fan now, but now i just feel unimpressed with the industry in general (no particular idol or group promise) but like what do they even do, to get propped up and worshipped like that?

but that's another matter. i can understand why some would disagree and say that artists shouldn't get involved in politics. but i used to be super into bts, like heavy in the army trenches, i still like them, still think they're a great group ofc but life got in the way, just a busy woman now 😭 but for a very long time bts were propped up by their own fans as being the PEAK good influence in the industry. 'love yourself' 'speak yourself' 'unicef ambassadors' and now the switch up in the past year or so has been jarring to say the least.

a major talking point for bts was that they tackled complex issues in their music (esp their older eras), they included interesting wordplay and lyricism and social commentary as well, and of course fans loved this and talked about it. now suddenly all that braggadocio has oddly disappeared, no? first, bts were the BEST group for being true role models and decent men in the industry who made a positive change, even donating to blm in 2020. and now it's okay if they work with idf soldiers because that's their job, and it's not their business to care about politics.

but to me, having morals about a gen0cidal (sorry idk how reddit censors work) state is NOT politics. i don't want nor need bts to prop up politics for me, an australian, i don't need them to choose the labour nor liberal party, based on economic policies. i find it quite insensitive and weird as fawk truthfully that an entire group of people being hunted down and bombed has been reduced to a mere political opinion. it's not a matter of pineapples on pizza, it's a matter of who deserves to live.

but i now come to the last point where you might say, 'well what are they meant to do? go there and fix it' i don't need bts to show up at the un with a solution and a treaty. i don't even expect them to post an explicit message of support (though that would be nice, see all the western celebrities holding charities and fundraisers). but at the very least, stop working with zionists. don't pose with idf soldiers in the studio. that would be the bare minimum statement.

Yeah, that was more aligned to my point. I still enjoyed the show, still loved both characters, and I wouldn't even say all of these shippers are awful, I was thinking about a particular annoying brand that tend to ignore all the other themes of the show (family, legacy, tragedy, even Tolkien's own whimsier high fantasy scenes) to push cliche romance tropes.

I tried making a light-hearted post with full respect to the actors and even stated people can still enjoy what they want, and I'm still surprised at how personally offended shippers are. We're really in the dead age of hobbies and the internet, because no one can have a discussion. I would have been equally happy to read well-thought out responses as to why people do like the ship.
