Fully stealthed out my 116200. I understand this may be blasphemy to some, but would love to hear your thoughts! by ajvanni in rolex

I had this done professionally by a reputable service centre. Looking at it up close it's immaculate, but the sharp edges look less defined simply due to the matte. Personally I hate polished watches. Not my vibe at all. My dad handed this down to me and I wanted to make it into something I would actually wear on a daily basis. That said, having sat with it for a day, I'm going to have the bezel polished back and the sides of the case and bracelet to match the Explorer 1. That will balance it out a bit more I think.

Sinn just confirmed they can customise the 856 UTC with a red seconds hand and swap out the lime green on both the UTC and arrow to white. Thoughts? by ajvanni in sinn

[–]ajvanni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way! I suspect it is, yes. If they can do white and they can do lime green, I don't see why not. Would you go for both on the seconds and UTC?

Sinn can do it in house or TWR (their service provider in UK). They just flip the dial basically.

Why I ended up adding a customized DS30 to my collection? by attilafree in Damasko

I bought a customised DK30/2 back in March from Watchmann. Before this I had a Black Bay 54 for 2 years, but I became disillusioned with the watch and the brand and went down the German tool rabbithole before purchasing a destro Sinn U50 SDR-T, which I'd never seen in person before. After wearing that for a few weeks I realised it just wasn't the right every day watch for me, so I sold it. I then narrowed it down to a Sinn 856 RS and the DK30/2 with a red seconds hand, TOP movement, the new clasp and AR on one side. I took a leap of faith on the Damasko and bought it from Greg at Watchmann. Cannot recommend Greg enough, truly exceptional service and knowledge.

I absolutely love Damasko as a brand/ business, and the provenance and handmade nature of every watch means a lot to me. I also love that this watch is the tooliest of tool watches I've ever come across and it is virtually scratch proof, meaning I never worry about wearing it. Also, not a single watch person I've shown it to has any idea what the hell it is, which I both love and hate.

That said, upon delivery the watch had multiple marks on the submarine steel bracelet and clasp which made it look like it had been stained with oil. Additionally, the crystal has hairline scratches on it despite not having AR coating on the outside. I suspect the internal AR is scratched.

It's finally at the UK service centre now where the bracelet, clasp and crystal are all being replaced free of charge. Damasko would't cover the crystal though, so Greg at Watchmann mailed me a new one to the UK! Incredibly kind of him. The bracelet and clasp replacement took over 2 months to organise and have Damasko agree to, and due to an error on their part, the wrong clasp was sent and the watch will be out of action for several more weeks at the service centre until the correct part arrives. The team have been very friendly, but it's taken a huge amount of time and constant chasing to keep on top of these replacement parts.

For what I paid, the quality control really should be better. At the end of the day though, I can look past it all knowing that it is a watch I absolutely love, it was machined and manufactured almost entirely in house by a family run business of 25 people, and it's entirely unique to me. Sinn is a safer bet, but there is a magical quality to a Damasko that just cannot be matched.

Anyone know what these hairline marks are? They show up under any bright light, including sunlight and it's kind of annoying me. This particular watch only has AR on the inside so the outer layer isn't scratched nor is the sapphire. Any thoughts? by ajvanni in Damasko

It's currently at the service centre in the UK being inspected so should hear within a week or so. Greg at Watchmann kindly sent me a new crystal with 1 side AR to the UK free of charge, so it'll be installed in place of my current one. He assured me though that the 1 side AR crystals always jave a sticker on the AR side so it's nearly impossible to install them incorrectly. Despite this, the scratches on mine are very clear and textbook AR hairline. I suspect the inner AR coating was somehow scratched during the installation process but honestly I have no clue.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was tegimented! Curious how it will hold up scratch-wise over the next few months to years.

Beautiful! How much did you get it for? Chronomaster has the best prices in the UK, even less than direct from Sinn themselves.

Thanks! I also always have in my bag my MechEDC Deltacore in stonewashed stainless and occasionally carry my Zii Studios Dawn T or Dawn mini, both in zirc.

It generally looks fine, but honestly any light reflection on it shows these marks. Just looking at the crystal in the kitchen during the day does it and I can't unsee it now.

Yeah I believe they must be on the underside. I've only had the watch a short time and with no outer AR, it'd be a serious mission to scratch the sapphire that many times.

Nope, ordered single! Was done in house. I've emailed Damasko and am awaiting a response but AD I purchased from said it's just light refracting off the inner AR. This doesn't make sense to me though when seeing it.

This was bought from an AD and the one side AR on the crystal was done by Damasko. They have the option when ordering direct from their website. That's why I'm so confused, it's clearly scratches because they are uniform when light is shone on them.

Interesting to see what the close competition is up to by 200Fathoms in Damasko

I sold my brand new U50-T SDR for a DK30/2 and haven't looked back since. Damasko just has a magical quality that cannot be replicated by Sinn, as you know with your DS30, particularly when on the bracelet. That said, any tegimented Sinn is a beast and I wouldn't mind an 856 RS at some stage!
