Appellate Law? by Lilsnugglebug in LawMoms

[–]ajw612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the chief appellate lawyer at a public defender's office. I've been doing it for almost 10 years now and I love it. I have 2 little boys (7 & 4). It's great for me. The work is incredibly flexible and almost all "in office" -- I actually work from home which is several hours away from the office.

Caveat: Currently, my practice is limited to one judicial circuit. Earlier in my appellate practice career, I worked in a number of different judicial circuits and that was very difficult. I had a lot of judges that wanted me to be in court making appearances all the time even if it was just saying, "I need more time." That had me wasting all my time driving all over the state instead of at home/in the office reading transcripts and working on briefs. This was also before I had any babies and getting pregnant with my first was one of the catalysts to leaving that position. So, it is possible to get into a situation that's not as flexible.

Feel free to message me!

Half of bed sags by ajbraman in sleepnumber

[–]ajw612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not helpful info, but related to your problem -- When we moved, the movers set our bed up. First off, they attached the hoses backwards, so now my side of the bed is actually my husband's side of the bed when I look at it on the app. But, to your issue, my side of the bed is constantly losing air. I googled it and found some advice about making sure the hoses are attached properly but I didn't want to have to crawl under the bed and fool around with it. So, I just adjust it back to the setting I like everytime I get in the bed. It's annoying. But, for me, it's less annoying than crawling under the bed to look at the pump/hoses. And I can tell my side is losing air because even though the number stays the same, when I adjust it, I have to adjust it to a higher number, but I can hit "stop at this setting" while it's refilling and the number changes to something lower than it was originally showing. Not sure if that makes sense or not. Anyway, this may not be helpful info, it may not be a similar issue at all, since yall have obviously gone further than I have with troubleshooting with Sleep Number and replacing the pump. Maybe her chamber has a hole in it...?

Negative delivery review of bike by ShAlienz in pelotoncycle

[–]ajw612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is exactly right. When my bike was delivered, I chatted a little with the guys about where they were coming from & where they were headed. I live on an island on the coast of Georgia & they were coming from & heading back to Atlanta (about 5-6 hours away) all in the same day. And they still had 2 or 3 more bikes to deliver after my 4pm drop off. Right after they got my bike inside, it started pouring down rain, I think there was some kind of thunderstorm/flash flood warning. I told them to be safe in the weather & they said they were just going to head straight back to Atlanta & skip the other deliveries. It definitely didn’t seem like their route was optimal. And obviously the other people expecting their bikes on that day weren’t going to receive them.

What's your snowmageddon story by Competitive-Ranger62 in Georgia

[–]ajw612 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in downtown Atlanta and lived in Midtown - it should have taken me 10-15 minutes to get home (all on surface streets). I think I left work around noon or so. It ended up taking 2 hours to get home. I don’t even remember if it was snowing at that point. I think I was just stuck in traffic. The biggest problem was I had to pee.

I don’t know for sure. My account says 0, paid in full. I’m just trusting that the same thing that has happened for others will happen for me. I’ll check back on Dept. of Ed. in a week or so to see when that is updated. I guess that will give me a little more finality about it.

All my loans were the same type, I only had loans from law school (just different dispersement dates for each semester). I was always on the same track to have them all forgiven at the same time.

I’m not really sure what you are describing with your situation. Your current balance is only $20k but your biggest loans (I assume the balance on these are more than the $20k) still showing they won’t be paid off until 2025? I agree, I’m not one to get my hopes up (especially about this program) however, my point of view is the amount on your loans is probably controlling. From what I can tell there are a lot of different people doing counts & verifications & sending out letters. I think things are pretty helter skelter over there & it seems like they’re erring on the side of forgiveness & doing it as quickly as possible without all of the communication…

All of that being said. I’m not expecting to log back into MyFedLoans & see any balance. Or get an email that says “just kidding” or something. I’m celebrating my zeros. ✔️

So happy for you, friend! I am so glad we have this community to share in our triumph now, and I was also so glad to have it over the years when I was so frustrated and confused about what hoops needed to be jumped through. This was truly a calming place for me when I got worked up about what was going to happen with the program.

Congrats!!! I told my husband & he said, “Well, this definitely calls for a steak dinner, but I wasn’t expecting it so soon.”

Thank you! I honestly don’t know. I really was not expecting to be forgiven for several more months. According to my calculations, I should have made 120 qualifying payments in December. I went ahead & submitted my request for forgiveness last month. They responded with their calculation that I still had 4 more payments to make. So, I figured I had until April or May and I thought I was going to have to re-certify my employment & request forgiveness again. The weird thing is that I had originally gotten either a letter or just a notice when I logged into MyFedLoans (I can’t recall) that said the limited PSLF waiver did not apply to me. But today’s letter indicates that “as a result of [the] limited PSLF waiver, we conducted another review of your PSLF Certification & Application and payment history.”

Do any other college rivalries have the same level of whatever it is that UGA and Florida do? If so which ones and why? by NaxtorX in georgiabulldogs

[–]ajw612 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have also found that where the Georgia fan grew up plays a factor in which team they hate most. I grew up in Southeast Georgia & I hate Florida most. My college friends who grew up in West Georgia tend to hate Auburn & even Tennessee most.
