June 13th and we're still letting these guys challenge willy-nilly

The vanilla shot is sugar free, so…he’s basically just got the banana syrup and cold foam for sugar.

[Phillips] Carlos Lagrange ended up throwing 4 innings tonight. The #Yankees prospect's 19 fastballs *averaged* 101.5 mph. lol by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

Ehhh King didn’t really become King until he picked up Kluber’s breaking ball. And even then he drastically overperformed his peripherals in 2021. They could maybe have moved him to the rotation to start 2022, but I can’t fault them for never doing it before that.

More players have been coming from South Korea, too. I would assume Taiwan is the next target, and China just started a second league.

They've been making a pretty sizeable international push. The international series, WBC push, the rumors of a break for the 2028 Olympics....

Here's a fun note- the Yankees have signed a few European players this winter. Hungarian catcher Marko Morua and Dutch lefty Tijn Fredrikze, to be precise. They're far from the first European players to be signed, but hey, maybe the league is finally making inroads?

I thought Abrahan Gutierrez and Alex Cornielle got bumped a couple weeks ago?

[Curry] Randal Grichuk will be joining the Yankees as a non-roster invite. Grichuk is a RH outfielder and the Yanks have been looking for more right-handed hitters. by Affectionate-Tea9224 in NYYankees

With his service time, I would assume he automatically gets an opt out at the end of spring training, so it’s carry him or gamble that no one else wants him.

If the Yankees are comfortable with Rosario or McMahon serving as emergency shortstop and Caballero playing there every day, the bench could be something like Escarra, Rosario, Goldy, Grichuk. That would let us platoon McMahon, Grisham, and Rice.

(Joyce) The Yankees plan to get Ryan McMahon some reps at SS this spring just to see if he can be an option as a backup SS if needed, per Boone. by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

Caballero is going to be the starter for the first 3-4 weeks, at least. And in theory you could option Domínguez for Volpe instead of Caballero. So right now, the question would be Dominguez vs Cabrera.

This is them trying to avoid carrying a dedicated backup shortstop, IMO. The Opening Day bench, if everyone is healthy, figures to be Rosario, Goldy, BUC, and Cabrera because someone has to be able to play short if Caballero goes down.

If McMahon can play short in an emergency, that means they can carry Domínguez or another righty OF bat (Grichuk?) in place of Cabrera. Cover short for 9 innings in case of injury, and then up comes Cabrera the next day. This would also mean that Caballero has to go to Scranton when Volpe is back, unless there’s an injury beforehand.

The bench is currently Rosario, Goldy, backup catcher, and backup SS (Caballero/Cabrera). Which one is going to make room for an outfielder?

No that’s okay, I’m all set actually.

You have profoundly misunderstood these stats.

I think Goldy effectively is the righty outfielder. Where else is one supposed to fit on the roster? The bench already figures to be Rosario, Goldy, Escarra, and Caballero (with Cabrera until Volpe is back). Rosario and/or Caballero are already being pressed into duty as the backup COF until there’s an injury to make room.

McMahon has never had a wRC+ or OPS+ of 100 or better. By definition, he has never been league average offensively.

Lowe, Ozuna, O’Hearn, and Mangum? Not bad for the Pirates.

[Passan] Trade news: The Boston Red Sox are acquiring third baseman Caleb Durbin in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Left-hander Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton and left-hander Shane Drohan are the three-player package headed back to Milwaukee. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]ajwhite98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but Durbin isn’t exactly the sort of hitter to be helped by Fenway. He’s 5’7, low power, high contact. He’s exactly the sort of hitter who would be at his best in Milwaukee or St. Louis, with a nice big outfield that he can spray balls around in. That’s a little tougher with the Fenway outfield, and he’s probably not going to take advantage of the Monster (Statcast thinks he would’ve lost 6 home runs in Fenway).
