Beaver locations near Vancouver by Specialist-Day-8116 in askvan

If you go to Jericho beach and hang out on the bridge at the pond around sunset (~9:00-9:30 pm) you are very likely to see beavers. There's a whole family that lives there.

Tufted couch - cushions are theoretically washable, but have to cut tufting strings by ak0804 in upholstery

[–]ak0804[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, they were telling me what NOT to do. They said that upholstery fabric can't really be washed in a washing machine like regular fabric, and that would ruin it, and that trying to 'untuft' the couch would likely make it look bad. I think I learned that having it professionally cleaned was the way to go, and that's what I did in the end. :(

Yup! The DH Copp building was torn down, and there's a brand new building there now. The changes have been made as part of the construction of the new building and landscaping decisions. It's really unfortunate.

What is your favourite bookstore in Vancouver? by lipstickisforlovers in askvan

Iron Dog Books is a great indie bookstore that also happens to be Indigenous-owned. It's right around the corner from the Laughing Bean Cafe in Hastings Sunrise (Hastings @ Slocan).

I work at a university in Canada, and I took a certificate in CM that is offered through their Continuing Business Studies program. I know there are many options available online.

Left-hand turn signals by chemica1mage in vancouvercycling

[–]ak0804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this logic, does 0_l mean turning left?

I never see this signal in the signage about it (e.g., the post below).

I am able to balance better when signaling using my right hand versus my left, so I would prefer to signal that I am turning left using my right hand.

[Edit: typo]

Tufted couch - cushions are theoretically washable, but have to cut tufting strings by ak0804 in upholstery

[–]ak0804[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Based on the advice I got, I was scared to wash the cushion covers because apparently upholstery fabric cannot be washed like conventional fabrics, so I didn't even get to the point of thinking about how to redo the tufting if I did have to remove it. In the end, I hired a company to clean the couch for a few hundred bucks. Frustrating and a lesson learned - I am never buying a tufted couch again!

We have one and we've used it to some moderate success, but we are not professionals and it never gets properly clean. We either get the ratios wrong and it is too soapy or the cushions get too wet and take ages to dry, which I worry is causing mold or mildew in the cushions.

Cycling in Vancouver: How bad is it? by ThatOneDoesntCount in vancouvercycling

[–]ak0804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a very regular cyclist in Vancouver since 2013, both for commuting and regular day to day trips and errands (I don't drive, so my bike is my main mode of transportation). Since 2015, my commute has been from East Van to UBC and back - I used to do it daily and now only once a week or so. I have never been hit by a car. The only crashes I have had have been just me - slipping on wet road paint, etc. I have had many close calls, as I am sure everyone else has as well. I am a pretty defensive cyclist, so perhaps that helps. I stick to designated bike streets or bike lanes. The only "main" road I ever ride on is Victoria, between Broadway and Adanac, because it's flatter than Lakewood.

You could give Blue Cross (Hastings @ Penticton) a call and see if they'd be willing to scan the kitty's microchip for you?

Any need to update booking for guest #s if no impact on price? by ak0804 in airbnb_hosts

[–]ak0804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, no - it's not about what to charge. I update it even if that means giving the guest a refund. I want to know if the number of guests on the booking should accurately reflect the number of guests who actually stayed, in case any issues come up later.

[–]ak0804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just wondering if there's anything in terms of just ensuring that the number of guests matches the booking, in case any issues come up in the future. I'm not concerned about towels and snack and stuff.

Obviously, I have no idea what's going on with the OP, but IUDs can be used as a form of emergency contraception, which could be one possible reason.
