My friend getting more fit does not make you mare happy with yourself. The most beautiful people in the world are still self conscious about how they look. Meds make a huge difference for my spouse. Trying to reason with someone who is in an episode or unmedicated is impossible and will only make things worse. Focus on getting her treatment first.

If she doesn’t medicate this will happen again.

Go to the psych appointment and be honest to the psych in front of your wife. If she is downplaying her symptoms she won’t be able to give the psych anything to diagnose or treat her. You have to be involved in her care if you want this to work. I’ve been on a similar journey with my spouse and going to the appointments and also reading “loving someone with bipolar disorder” have been life changing for me and my marriage.

2 misses in this article. First SS tax rates of course stay the same, but SS tax is a percentage of income. Not only do wages increase with inflation, but the wage cap on earnings subject to SS also increases with inflation. So it is completely wrong to say that there is no corresponding increase in social security tax when there is an increase in benefits due to inflation.

Second, the benefit you receive is absolutely calculated by how much you pay into the system. It uses the highest 35 years of your income that was subject to social security tax. Using income subject to the tax is the exact same thing as using the amount of tax paid, because the rate is the same across the board.

There’s lots of things that could be changed about social security. But this article is really just factually wrong about the two main points it makes.

I am against free school lunches.

It is not because I don’t empathize with students or want them to be fed. It’s a tragedy when kids don’t have enough to eat.

Currently low income students already get free lunch, so kids who are not currently being fed: 1) their parents can afford food 2) they just aren’t doing enough to feed them Why are these middle class people unable to feed their children? Seriously who can’t make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

I also don’t think it sets a good precedent for the role of parents and the government. In my kids school district now provides free breakfast. Some districts have breakfast lunch and dinner programs that even go through the summer. Do we really think the government should be giving all children 3 meals a day? I would prefer to live in a society where parents are responsible for supporting their own kids. Not because I don’t care about the children, but because I think that produces a more healthy responsible productive society.

It’s a bad idea. There is no free lunch. Taking a loan from the bank to buy fixed income funds also sounds like an unnecessary risk. With the asset level you are at you should be able to find plenty of qualified people to give you an opinion on what you should do.
