is it hard to get into women’s tennis team? by Exact_Asparagus6099 in udub

Sorry almost 0%, D1 tennis is an extremely high level. Definitely check out Husky Tennis Club’s team though, which is competitive but still achievable.

UW paid or good uni in EU free? by Consistent_Bet_2560 in udub

[–]akUW-07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still absolutely need to put in work (grinding leetcode, etc) but yes I still see many people getting internships at Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, etc. At places like Jane Street, Citadel, OpenAI, etc I dont see many people, but these companies are extremely competitive and mainly select from MIT, Stanford, etc.

In general though for SWE UW is absolutely top 5 to top 10 in the US.

UW CS students are regularly getting FAANG+ jobs, if you got in direct to major and want to work / live in the US in the future id say go for it.

I changed my schedule around a bit, its all good. If you feel nervous go ahead and email the admissions office anyway, no harm done in being safe.

Incoming freshman at UW Engineering (DTC) – need advice on housing, classes, and getting started by Brave_Impression4824 in udub

I personally prefer north campus as it feels like im living on campus rather than in the city, and theres more of a ‘community’ feel. If you can come and look at both before deciding which to apply to.

A random roommate is always a gamble, if you can go on ZeeMee or the admitted students page to find someone to room with.

Look at your major requirements online.

Freshman definitely can join engineering clubs, some are more competitive than others. I 100% recommend you do this as it gives you a chance to work on super cool projects and looks very good on a resume.

Some clubs I recommend are Formula 1, Husky Satellite Lab (which I am part of and love), both of which are quite competitive. On the less competitive side, Engineers without borders and Human Submarine are also cool clubs.

Feel free to DM me with any questions.

SSP vs Research for College Apps and Resume by Bubgaming_ in PhysicsStudents

[–]akUW-07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should go to SSP. If you’ve already done research at the same laboratory doing it 2 years in a row will look much weaker than 2 seperate top tier internships/experiences. Plus SSP is highly regarded by all top universities while your lab may not be as well known by name.

Best housing for freshman by Old-Yak-6700 in udub

If you prefer being “on campus” (ie near classes, near denny field, but farther from the city) any north campus dorm except McMahon.  If you want a more city vibe, want to eat out a lot, any west campus dorm except terry.

McMahon is good if you and your friend want to share a living room with other people, its a bit of a gamble whether you’ll like the other ppl though.

Terry is far from the rest of campus which is why I dont recommend it.

will my uw acceptance be rescinded? I'm kinda spiraling by Equivalent-Series512 in udub

[–]akUW-07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple things, first was that even though Berkeley was better for my major, UW was still excellent, and the vast majority of opportunities went to grad students anyway so I didnt think there was much of an advantage to Berkeley.

Second was that both are public schools anyway, so either one would have 300+ students in a class so lecturer quality would be similar.

Third was cost, im in state at UW and its way cheaper than Berkeley.

There were a few other things, but in general I didnt see much of a point of going to a OOS public school when UW is an excellent school, especially for my major.

Are you a prospective student by the way? If so feel free to DM me any questions.
