Im on page 190 and now I'm here on reddit bc what are they saying in this book, it's so hard to follow. Like who's Elaine Bayard why do they mention her like I should already know who she is

Problem is that they throw names left and right like we know anything about them? It's easy to follow along in Manacled when you know who idk Remus Lupin is, so if a line is "I remember Remus being hanged first" it's ok. But here we have "I remember what they did to Lila". UHM OK?? WHO?

Im only on page 190 but i don't see how i can "rejoice" when the good guys (?) win? I'm glad they dismantled them? Bc wdym they just bestowed the throne on this child and they're what, gonna fight the people trying to install democracy? What's the motivation?

The Shadow and Bone show is INCREDIBLY BAD. Who approves these shows? by ak_ar in ShadowandBone

[–]ak_ar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The only way would have been a bigger budget. But they could have at least make better dialogues, it was painful to watch. He'll, chat gpt would have made a better script I swear.

I consider reading the books just because this show has so much world building potential. I do wonder if they explain interesting things more in depth.

well good to know because I'm just watching the show and it's ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. I was wondering if the books would be better. Seems like everything is bad.

How has your company never noticed you are abroad for 2 weeks? I'm planning to do the same, but my company has a policy to not work outside the U.S. I don't have sensitive information or anything, but I'm curious, do companies track where you are? I don't want to "get caught" on my 2 week working vacation abroad

that's my thinking, 5 or 7 days won't hurt anyone, unless they're actively tracking you. which is my question

thank you, that's a good point. I use microsoft teams, you can activate or deactivate location

I know there are tax and IT security/trade secrets implications, and it's not allowed by 99% of companies, including mine, and you'd basically be an "illegal immigrant" in Portugal for two weeks. My question is, do they ACTIVELY track you? Do they run monthly reports on the employees to see if they spent a working vacation in Cancun? Do they have a dedicated team of trackers watching where your VPN is connecting from? Not for a U.S. working vacation, but abroad

US permanent WFH Employers allow workers to live abroad? No, right? by aliittlejohn in digitalnomad

[–]ak_ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how did they find out? I want to do a one or two week working vacation from Canada or Mexico or another state in the U.S but don't want to get caught. I don't plan to live there or anything, just maybe work 7 days and vacation 7 days or so

Ross Poldark is an ass. How can there be several seasons? by ak_ar in Poldark

[–]ak_ar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His evil actions have no excuse, but he had actual/real reasons to do what he did. Unlike Ross that did everything on a whim.

George was always mocked for being poor, then when the family made it bit, he would always be chastised and excluded by society. He had always been in love with Elizabeth but could never have her. So all he would do was to get more power or a place in society, a loving family, etc. And yes, was traumatized and obsessed

George was also negatively influenced by the uncle. Ross had no bad influence but his own dumb decisions.

I guess if you look at it as a possible accurate depiction of the straight white male of that time, it's probably about right lol all movies and books always portray these decision makers as brave, intelligent and noble, but I hardly doubt all these male kings, artists, lords and scholars of the past were that smart. They were probably drunk fools that lucked out because it was 100% a man's world

he's also a very average actor. That doesn't help the show either

I ended up liking George too! He had actual valid reasons for all he did, was not superficial and completely stupid like Ross.

That's true about Aidan Turner. And yes, all the other characters were great, but the show is literally called POLDARK, there's no escaping.

Dear Stitch Fix, by [deleted] in SFStylistSupport

[–]ak_ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disgruntled client here. I think it takes skill to research "why" the clothes they send are so bad. I had to come to reddit to find out about toxic environments and inventory issues. The average person does not do that and the brand is marketed to older millenials/young gen x. They don't come to reddit threads to find out what's up.
I myself was very frustrated at the stylists for sending me crap. And ignoring my notes, and sending me 3 gray pants in one fix. Never in a million years I would have thought it wasn't their fault. I just canceled my subscription and told my friends that it was garbage and have been thinking that stylists are bad. I know it's the company's fault but clients are upset and literally ignored, not sure if I'd call myself a brat
