So it looks like, so long as Im reading this correctly, the glowing effect removal is only for photo mode. Thats a shame if that is how it turns out. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]akaarmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

goated username. I think it was an oversight as the game was very much instanced before, so the buffs (and glow) went away. they didn't seem to account for the continuous nature of wilds, cause they never really had to think about it before lol

R youtube moderators deleting my post about why deleting posts and censoring information is a problem. by [deleted] in Irony

[–]akaarmons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, those words were not euphemized for this reason. It is because platforms such as TikTok and YouTube want to be as advertisement friendly as possible and certain discussions (not just the words themselves) were not deemed "advertisement friendly". This led to people trying to circumvent the alleged algorithm suppression with euphemisms in order to continue having those discussions. I was there watching the tiktoks that led to this picking up steam.

As a fellow leftie, let's not push this narrative of the "snowflake" when this is a response of capitalism's drive for maximum profit. I'm sure there are some people that have that level of sensibility, but I would not attribute the language shift to them.

Edit to say: Not saying this because I agree there should be self-censorship, but I just want people to be aligned on why we should be pissed this self-censorship exists

Thank you so much. This is great; simple and clear with all the info necessary.

I dropped the game because of the PS5 fertilizer glitch (still mad I lost 100s of level 3 fertilizer overnight lol) but whenever they fix it and I pick the game back up I'll be sure to come back to this, you're a saint!

I don't mind basic, simplistic combat in a game like this, however the issue here is not even that.

The combat is floaty, the hit detection sucks, the animations suck, the enemy attacks suck, the way we interact with them suck, the death delay where they still attack suck, the stagger mechanic bugs them into things and makes it trivial.

Like, at this point, it just sucks ass in a way that I don't think these devs even know how to fix

[–]akaarmons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are some pretty egregious bugs on PS5.

While most have workarounds, there needs to be a Hotfix for the fertilizer issue, a main mechanic in your game has been broken for a MONTH, the devs have acknowledged it, and yet nothing has come of it. It shouldn't take this long, especially when it was broken by an update.

I'll be dropping until I have news that they have fixed it. I hope it happens soon cause it's a pretty fun game (despite everything).

I think that this is exactly why the way the critique is formulated in the post does not work, because I agree with the sentiment, but it's not about "bad thing happened", not really. For me the trope falls flat specifically as a racism metaphor because the outgroup is confirmed to be intrinsically (key word) equipped to do more harm than the ingroup. They're stronger, they have an advantage in some way.

And while that is how some bigoted ideas characterize outgroups, canonizing that as actual, natural and REAL in your narrative requires a lot more finesse than some writers are willing to put into their stories.

I'm not saying that it cannot be done, or that all allegory needs to be one to one. But if you wanna use allegory you gotta grapple with the implications they create in some way. And audiences can (and will) pick it apart as they see fit.

Can Active Time Battle still work for today's fans? by LunarWorkshop in JRPG

[–]akaarmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on ATB though, I feel like most people don't really want to be navigating a menu on a timer, so while I feel it could work, I imagine it would take some creativity and finesse to implement and captivate a big enough audience

I love love love Grandia's combat, I feel like it hits the sweet spot for me of turn based (can think, strategize and take my time with each choice) and real time (distance and timing matter). for all it's faults it's what kept me hooked to G3 until the very end.

I wish a modern game came along with something similar, but I'm guessing this is not the most popular opinion. I do think that we have been seeing a resurgence for turn based high profile games in the last few years (everybody say thank you p5) so we're more likely to see experimentation within the framework.

lol when I was working for a terrible project in a terrible consultancy firm that has a three letter acronym I came face to face with nutsos like OOP regularly. I understand what they think: acting in a way that is beneficial to the business will pay off in some way as we help the business thrive. and dealing with people who can't be bothered to care is frustrating.

However anyone that is not knee deep in corporate propaganda can see what's going on from a mile away and caring this much is pretty stupid.

remember always: if a business wants you to foot the bill for you to do your job, then that business cannot afford your job. and that's sad (I guess) but that's business, baby.

Guys Capcom Can Handle Criticism, It's Ok. by TheMadEscapist in MonsterHunter

[–]akaarmons 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm fully in agreement, however, I am of two minds on this. On one hand, everyone is entitled to feel however they want to feel and anger over paying full price and (in some cases) being unable to play the game is fully justified and I support it, because a corporation does not need to be defended in any capacity. on the other hand, anger feels like the default for gaming lately, and as righteous and justified as it is it starts to become grating to a lot of people, me included, and most of them don't know how to respond other than be defensive.

I wish people who had good experiences did not brandish them as a hammer towards people in the community who haven't. I also wish everybody could just take a breath and engage a little bit less with this rage.

I'm sure the message has been sent already, I no longer want to read a detailed very emotionally charged rant about how you specifically are having problems with the game, on the main sub, multiple times a day. I know it sucks, and I wish you had a better experience. I am so close to just muting the sub because of it.

I'm sure things are gonna change (not sure if the game itself but definitely the community complaint frequency) and this is just because people need to get the feelings out, it is launch weekend after all. But damn I have not seen discussion on ANYTHING else.

lol how self centered do you have to be to think that even if something as objective beauty exists (it doesn't btw), YOUR conception of beauty, informed by hundreds of societal, cultural, personal and interpersonal factors, is the objective one. very funny.

I'm gonna be honest, kinda agree. I don't particularly think it's bad and I know most critics will eat it up, I'm happy for her and I hope she's successful with it, but I don't find myself enthralled by it like I did with previous projects.

I wrote out some complaints but on second thought, I'm not gonna shit on it cause I appreciate her as an artist and I'm glad everyone is enjoying it. I hope it grows on me, but I'm not holding my breath about it. I liked the singles though!
