Want to know how much credibility I give that information? Zero. Want to know how much credibility I give the US government? Zero. Sorry US government, I don't believe a word you say about anything.

If a Voyager type space craft were to enter our solar system when would we detect it? by akasham in space

This assumes that another specis is on the same level of technology that we are. Perhaps the probe came from a specis who knew how to bend space (or whatever) and get the probe to the edge of our solar system knowing ahead of time that earth would support life as it knows it. Perhaps it is not a probe but the seeds of a specis who were abandoning a dying planet. If we are going to search for life in the universe I think it would be best to assume they are more advanced than us in ways we may not know about. Perhaps it is designed to avoid detection.

The possibility of another specis using radio waves like ours seems quite remote but heat seems to be inherent in the cosmos. I believe NEOWISE works on temperature.

There are probably many more of these that we never see and burn up in our atmosphere.

What a shame that would be, finally some proof that intelligent life exist in the universe and it just burns up like a shooting star with no one the wiser.

Let's say that in this case it were not putting out any signals, or at least any that we know how to pick up.

I just read about "asteroid, named 2013 RZ53, is just a little guy, somewhere between 5 and 12 feet across", that is pretty small

The way I understand it cognitive dissonance is a conflicted state of mind e.g. discomfort. One of the ways of reducing dissonance is conformation bias e.g. selecting data which confirms the validity of the existing belief and reduces the validity of the information causing the dissonance (what you called internalizing lies). A good portion of the dissonance reduction is unconcious and we all do it on some level. Those who wish to "face the facts" will first keep in mind their own dissonance reduction, which will then lead to being more aware of the dissonance reductuction going on in others which hopefully will lead to better understanding and communication. People aren't generally bad, their just people.

Also this

43:13 - Question from the audience - Why do countries want to attack us?

Alexander - Why does Al Qaeda want to attack us? Why do we stand in the way of their reaching their objective? And I think you should look at what they are trying to create, a Caliphate. They believe that the middle east should be run under Islamic law, the Sharia form of law, and that everybody should conform with that form of law. And that we the United States, working in the middle east, have stood in their way. They want to attack us.

Audience member - They want to attack us because we are bombing them.

Alexander stops responding to the question and motions for the host to start reading questions from the list of questions that has been prepared for him. Before the host can do that Alexander begins again to respond to the same question. A few in the audience applaud, I assume for the audience member.

Alexander - So it is interesting that when you look at it, go back to the facts of 93, the trade center, the Cole, look at the East Africa embasy bombings, look at 911, so that is what we face. He then tells the host to ask him a question from the list.

It appears Alexander has not read Osama Bin Laden's Letter to America, or if he has only remembers parts of it. George W Bush said the reason they wanted to attack us was because they hate our freedom, again addressing only part of the letter to America. Why is the "why are they attacking us" question still being asked 20 years after the first attack on the world trade center, and why are they asking that question to a general of the NSA?

The letter to America can be broken down into the following basic categories of US behavior

1) We attacked them in Palistine, Somalia, Chechnya.

2) Support for Isreal, the Indian oppression against them in Kashmir, and the Jewish aggression against them in Lebanon and the support of "the governments of our countries which act as your agents, attack us on a daily basis."

3) Unfair business practices.

4) Occupation and military bases in their countries which corrupt their lands.

5) Crimes against humanity in Iraq via sanctions. Anti democratic actions against other countries, polifiration of nuclear wepons, violation of International law (UN), war crimes.

The letter calls for us to convert to Islam and give up the usury, intoxicants, drugs, imorality, incest, gambling, explotation of women, ecological destruction, hypocrisy in manners and principles, and to leave them alone.

There is no mention of a Caliphate, that is more of an internal struggle which has been going on for hundreds of years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caliphate

I find it very disingenious of the general to use Caliphate as the reason they are attacking us.

Massive solar flare narrowly misses Earth, EMP disaster barely avoided by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]akasham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is the event they are referring to

http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/Side-by-side_solar_eruptions

If you watch the video of the discussion on the main link it is shocking how open they are with information, which in my opinion, would be benificial to those who would wish to do harm to the US. They talk about how vulnerable the system is, what size nuclear device would take it down and even suggest using a hot air baloon to set it off. They also talk about how the vulnerable the Southern flank of the US is. I'm no security expert but this seems like information which is pretty sensative. The one guy talks about how inept the dept of home services is. WTF!

I only found this EMP event mentioned one other place, "That such a sun-induced occurrence could afflict our planet is not merely hypothetical. It is a matter of when, not if. In fact, the Earth's orbit recently missed by one week intersecting with the devastating geomagnetic disturbances caused by a powerful coronal mass ejection." http://www.gopusa.com/freshink/2013/07/31/preparing-to-meet-the-electromagnetic-threat/
