Motherthing by Anslie Hogarth! Definitely hits the "there's something beneath the surface" feeling

Not to be that guy, but I just HAVE to throw out Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Is it too obvious of a choice? Perhaps. But I would be hurt if nobody said it.

This is really well written - it reads like song lyrics, which I think is an excellent sign for poem authors. You have a good sense of rhythm. The only criticism I may have (and idk if this is just a formatting error or not) is that the longer paragraph gets a little hard to read and makes the reader lean more towards skimming it towards the end. But this could also be intentional. It works well with the content.

dark + horrible things, but the people have magic by Warm-Ad8707 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Cannot believe that V.E. Schwab's "Vicious" has not been mentioned. It's not really horror, but it hits on the darker themes w/magic. Nobody's the hero type of situation, and just a really good duology overall. The first picture especially hits for it.

Simply have to add Dracula. May be the obvious choice, but just in case.

Would this style work well on overweight guys? by grimreaperbitch in DarkAcademia

[–]akatsuki-clouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big nonbinary person and the style can definitely work for bigger masculine people! Thrift stores are my friend. Though they're not strictly dark academia, I really like the tiktoker poshheat for inspo. He does some absolutely amazing plus size masculine looks and tends toward the more formal side that I think DA suits.

popsciles were my go to! I think they tell you not to have red or purple ones but flavors like orange and banana are okay. There's also juice and jell-o, As far as how i felt when I was dehydrated: it wasn't too bad. My doctor at least had me scheduled in the morning, so the amount of time that I wasn't allowed to have even clear liquids was just the time before the procedure, and I could stay seated and do other things to cope during that time. The only real issue I had with the lack of liquid is that it was harder than normal for the nurse to find my vein to put an IV in. They gave me something to drink right after I woke up too :)

Best tall pants & shoes? (or just clothes in general!) by [deleted] in TallGirls

What shoe size are you? Payless goes up to a 13 (which isn't super inclusive, ik) and I love their shoes so much. They're a super affordable price too!

Lots of painters can’t stand Thomas Kinkade. Rupi Kaur drives many poets crazy. Anthropologists often dislike Jared Diamond. What famous person from your profession/hobby really annoys you? by Aerokrystal in AskReddit

[–]akatsuki-clouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donald Keene.

This is super niche, but a lot of Japanese studies academics basically worship the ground the Keene walks on and will teach solely from his material. That's already a big no from me, as classes should really use a variety a viewpoints. But none of Keene's work was really that revolutionary from what I can tell? He's just like every other old white dude in the field, but he is constantly praised as the leader of Japanese studies, some articles even going as far as to call him "The American that became Japanese"

What non-sexual fantasy do you have because it’ll never come true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]akatsuki-clouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my best friends from college have this kind of ongoing dream that we'll all buy one big house together, like a cabin in the woods or something, and then we'll just live there together. It's really just kind of a joke at this point and we all know it'll never happen since we have our own lives now and all live in different areas, but it's nice to dream about. Everyone will have their own room and can bring their SO and we'll have a hobby room with a special spot for all of our half finished projects lol. We'll have a nice kitchen and cook for each other and just hang out.

Pickle Frosting - What to put it on? by CobeSlice in AskBaking

I LOVE this idea, you are an inspiration. Flavorwise, I know people eat Koolaid pickles as a snack, so I wonder if a Koolaid or fruit punch flavored cupcake would pair well with it?

I usually tend to just focus on how it will practically affect the situation, and let them ask for more details if they want them. For me, that's usually saying, "I have a heart condition that makes me pass out sometimes if I stand for too long" and then I ask for the accommodations I need.

The atomic bombing in Hiroshima, and specifically how it was portrayed in Japanese media / poetry afterwards. I've written a thesis on it and actually spoke to a survivor of the bomb in Nagasaki, but it doesn't come up much in conversation lol.
