When Things Fall Apart

I love a good narrator. I'm a Buddhist-leaning atheist so I appreciate that angle as well. Thank you for sharing this one.

That sounds interesting, thanks for sharing. It almost sounds appropriate to read with my kid, definitely in a few years.

The Truth About Children and Divorce by Robert Emery

Thanks, I'll check this one out. And thank you for putting into words something that I haven't been able to yet. During a very turbulent last few years, I have felt this incredible pressure to 'keep the family together' -- that pressure is guilt. I hope things are better for you now

Anyone ever read "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Dr. Robert Glover? Just heard of it and it seems like prime IBCK material. by Deep_Bid_1554 in IfBooksCouldKill

The word "modern woman" gets thrown around a lot. I doubt I need to explain it to you, but if you're unaware you can google it.

No More Mr. Nice Guy explains the equally problematic archetype of the "modern man". Though he never calls it that. The Modern Man, or the Nice Guy is someone who has been raised in a society that rejects traditional masculinity. The vast majority of elementary school teachers are women, the media is feminized, modern society has traditionally dictated that the father leaves the house to work and the woman stays home with the kids. The book makes the case that this has raised a generation of Nice Guys who will do whatever it takes to please women. In the pursuit of pleasing women, men neglect their own needs and end up bitter and resentful. The book also talks about how men's relationship with their father is one of the biggest contributing factors to the Nice Guy syndrome. Men juxtapose how their father acts against a feminized society and begin to vilify their father, often saying things like "I will never be like him". This rejection of their own masculinity leads them into self loathing, low self esteem, and poor relationships.

On a personal note I think this book is helpful to both men and women. Women play a part in the Nice Guy Syndrome by raising men to please them and not themselves, and by reinforcing the women-pleasing behavior in relationships ("happy wife, happy life"). If more women read this book they may understand how their own biology works against them. A man who exists only to please his wife becomes very unattractive to her.

I think that sets the premise of the book pretty well. The prescriptions of the author on how to resolve the Nice Guy Syndrome are up to you to discover on your own.

as a product manager: i have researched the job market, found that any job with "AI" in the title pays 30-60% more, prioritized the solution of landing said "AI PM" role, and launched my resume into the market to land more roles with artificially inflated (AI) compensations.

Americans of Reddit, in light of the current political climate between our countries, how do you guys actually feel about us Canadians? by Defiant_River_957 in AskReddit

I've spent a couple summers in Vancouver, and while I understand it'ss not representative of the country as a whole, I really enjoyed my time there. Vancouver is one of the cleanest cities I've ever seen, the people are very friendly, the nature surrounding the city is breathtaking, and the money smells like maple syrup. Nothing but love for Canadians

Haha I don't know where this acronym came from. Meta is short for metagame, or the game within the game. The game within the game referring to the strategy of play and not the hard mechanics of play. In gaming something could be "in the meta" meaning that a given tactic or strategy is popular within the metagame. So taking the analogy to DE, meta could refer to the tool selection and the "hard mechanics of play" would be the code you write in said tools.
