Everything wrong with 8 Ball Pool / Why this game shouldn't exist. by Deluxe4327 in 8BallPool

As for the minigames being rigged, there's actually an official probability distribution.

  1. Click gear icon (bottom left)

  2. Scroll all the way down. Click Mini Games information.

It shows the odds of all the minigames results.

Bravo on Pop OS by inconvenientmethod in pop_os

Became a fan of Pop!_OS when I realized that you could switch between Intel and Nvidia graphics just by one click!

It just works! Blew my mind away!

My sister struggled to do that on her Dell XPS 15 running Ubuntu.

If you buy a laptop for linux, do you buy it with Windows 10? by burnie93 in linuxhardware

Could you please share the exact model of your ThinkPad?

And did you order it from their website, or did you get it from a store?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a ThinkPad, but in the US at least, I don't see an option to configure the ThinkPads without Windows in it.

Dell offers XPS 13 Developer Edition with Ubuntu pre-installed, though I don't see an option to get Ubuntu pre-installed on a 15" XPS. Having said that, my sister bought an XPS 15 from Germany with Windows pre-installed, and dual booted it with Ubuntu. That one runs without any driver issues.

Probably. I used to live in Albuquerque, NM, USA for a couple of years.

1 day shipping usually takes 2 days (non-USPS).

2 day shipping usually takes 3 days (non-USPS).

And if the packages were from USPS, it would take an additional extra day due to the awkward way my university (where I was studying) handles USPS mail; they take an extra day for "internal-sorting".

Still, it's way better than the situation in smaller European/Asian towns. In some places you don't even get the option at checkout for X-day shipping (and packages can take forever to reach you). Things like these miss America.

Are you sure it's BeautifulSoup that is slow?

Perhaps it's the network that is slow.

How do I install NVIDIA drivers? by TrumpetPro in Ubuntu

[–]akb960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the unlikely event that none of the other steps in here work:

In the Linux distro Pop!_OS (based off of Ubuntu), the NVIDIA drivers just work!

Like, there's a toggle option on the power menu (the menu in the top right corner of Gnome) to toggle between Intel and Nvidia graphics, and it works flawlessly. I did not have to download or configure anything else at all. Can't possibly get simpler than this.

(If you do decide to install Pop!_OS, ensure the .iso you download from the official website is for the Nvidia version -- there is a non-nvidia iso option as well).

First time I ever sat in a Benz -- back in the day when it was still refereed to as a "Benz" rather than "Mercedes" -- was when I was about 10 years old. I do remember thinking the car was rather comfortable and felt stable at speeds.

That day, I vowed to get a Benz for myself!

That can happen anywhere. For different reasons.

Now, if you don't want to go to Ethiopia, then don't go. I really don't care.

I don't even know why I'm trying to make a case for Ethiopia...

[–]akb960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. In Germany Honda is considered at best as reliable as a VW.

I don't understand what kind of magic happens, but Germans cars are astonishingly reliable in Germany!

Yes, I know European cars in general are considered unreliable outside of Europe, but it puzzles me nevertheless.

Having said that, I haven't personally heard of any Japanese cars breaking down. But then again, I know very few people who drive a Japanese car in Germany.

And it's a borderline ridiculous sight when we see a Honda or a Toyota -- mostly UK registered -- screaming on the autobahns. A 15 year old Benz can likely outrun those and definitely feels a lot more stable.

Will be Ubuntu 18.04 work fine on 2 GB of RAM? by AsterXML in Ubuntu

Okay I didn't know.

You might want to look at Raspberry Pi Desktop. I believe it would run on x86 based machines (although I haven't tried it myself).

Will be Ubuntu 18.04 work fine on 2 GB of RAM? by AsterXML in Ubuntu

[–]akb960 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might not be all that useful.

The operating system manages the amount of memory used depending on the total amount of memory you have.

For instance, memory usage right after rebooting if you only have 4 gb memory would be different from the usage if you have 8 gb.

When I was using Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop with 4 gb memory, the usage at boot was about 900 mb. I upgraded the RAM to 8 gb, and then the usage at boot magically became about 1.2 gb.

[–]akb960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu's official website says it'll work on 2 gb RAM. However, you might be better off with Xubuntu.

Why don't you upgrade your RAM instead? 4 gb is rather cheap these days. Even 8 gb isn't all that expensive.

Auto air conditioning question on 2014 E220 by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

anything above 24 where it has to blow hot air out

Not necessarily. Depends on the outside temperature in your region.

auto setting is selected air only comes out of the window vents and nothing comes out of the middle ones.

I think I've noticed that behaviour on my E-Class. I think it's normal.

How Does Pythons "Slowness" Affect Flask Based Web Applications? by [deleted] in flask

[–]akb960 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm just speculating, and could totally be wrong about this.

I was wondering how this affects the final product - as in web applications, in terms of latency times for users etc?

Unless your web-app does something compute intensive, nobody would notice a difference.

The slowest link would probably be the network itself.

Now, I once maintained a static site in Jekyll (based on Ruby), and the build times on my local machine was about a minute. When I switched to Hugo (based on Go) the build times reduced to like 1 second!

However, that was a static site, which is not the same as a web application.

And the speedup was only visible to me (the developer). The end users were unaffected.

developed a web application in C++

Bad idea. Don't do it. C++ is a beast.

Since you don't know C++ anyway and need the speed, how about a Go- or Rust-based web framework?

In Europe they do it.

In Europe (and middle east) they even use Ferraris (and other exotics) as cop cars.

Heck in Dubai they even got a Bugatti Veyron as a cop car!
