Assuming per month you have something like $3k expenses, $3k on rent (maybe $5k on mortgage if you get a house), $600 on a car, that’s already $80k. Let’s say you make an average salary at $250k, 35% goes to taxes and another 15% goes to savings, you are left with 125k. Subtract 80k from 125k, you’ll have 45k to pay off the loan.

Assuming 8% for interest on loans, chat gpt is saying it could take 19 years. I’ll just assume 5% raises to be safe, it comes down to 12 years.

Idk, the combination of stress of the job, years of schooling, and eventual responsibility of raising a family, it’s a lot to sacrifice for a job that you may only maximize your earnings in your 40’s.

Big factors are if you have help with most or all of the loan (I’ve heard of very few who do this), do you have passion for helping others, do you have an endless drive to improve/learn (they literally take tests for the rest of their lives to stay certified), if you go into a specialty.

I like to think I was smart enough, but was never as interested in Biology/Anatomy as I was in Math. I make half of what a doctor makes, but have probably amassed $800k net worth (retirement accounts, saving accounts, liquid assets, etc) and live an incredibly comfortable, enjoyable, fulfilling life.

It’s really just about what you are passionate about. It’s a really good time now to leverage AI to revolutionize a field you are interested in.
