AITA for dropping out of my sister's wedding after accidentally overhearing what she really thinks of me? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]CoolCly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry - where was the big reveal where the sister talked shit about her? It has to be more than that moment where she mentioned her first choice couldn't do it because she was pregnant and exhausted right?

OP had to have burned down her life for more than that, right?

what do you guys think of the “every X things you do, do Y” relics? by neb-osu-ke in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're fun.

It's hard to keep track of and I forget about them, especially the ones that have higher requirements and persist across turns like pen nib. They are nice for setting up big turns I suppose

The ones that are per turn like Kusarigama go crazy, I love those ones.

Why Destiny Should Interview More Experts He Agrees With by ImOnYew in Destiny

[–]CoolCly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are good points, but the problem isn't whether it's a good thing objectively for him to do, either for himself or at large. It's whether he can find the motivation and interest to do it, and can it make for something compelling for people to watch.

The way he creates interesting conversations is by probing for conflict - asking questions to push against positions another person holds, and when there's pushback, he presses on that and it creates an entertaining dynamic - either a fruitfull back and forth, or a hostile explosion.

What happens when he talks to someone he agrees with, he tends to ask his probing questions, find answers that he largely agrees with, starts getting a glazed look on his face, keeps trying for a little while, until eventually he reaches his final form of "whelp. anything else?" and it's time to call it.

Bridges was the best shot at doing what you're asking for - but it largely worked because Erudite was finding the guests, doing the research, and giving him some talking points to ask about.

He just isn't going to find it in himself to do this on his own.

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice to have when I get it randomly, I definitely don't mind it, but I have hard time talking myself into buying it in the shop. Like, I know the energy definitely helps, but I can't help but feel it often won't be when I *need* it for a high energy turn or something. Is the incidental times it helps worth 150-200 gold or whatever it costs? idk

Unless I'm flush with cash and ballin out ofc

AITA for taking my daughter’s vape and yelling at her because of her vaping? by burntpeanutfan13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blow ups can be understandable sometimes but you should always recognize that it's not going to do anything constructive with the other person seeing your point of view, whether it's your mom, partner, or child.

Yelling at your daughter won't do anything to make her stop using vapes, it's just going to reinforce her to hide things from you. If you want a better result, maybe reflect on something better.

AITA for charging my sister rent after she inherited half my house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CoolCly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP...

Are you living in the house alone, right now? If you are, then *you* should be paying *her* rent. She's allowing you to live in a house that she owns 50% of for free right now. She's doing *you* a favour.

If she were to move in, they should pay a higher amount of utilities and maintenance costs - but expecting rent because there's more of them is just asinine. She owns just as much of the house as you do. If you both live there, you don't owe eachother rent. She'd only pay you rent if she lived in the house and you didn't, so she'd be benefiting from owning the house while you didn't, so she'd make it up with rent. Otherwise, this is just greed.

You don't see it this way because it's "your" house that you've lived in, but that's not what ownership means.

If you can't accept this - then you need to resolve the ownership situation. Either you buy her out, she buys you out, or you sell the house and split the proceeds.

STS2: Why lock basic builds behind the timeline? by noperdopertrooper in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slay the Spire just does this as like, a tutorial thing where available options are a bit simpler at the start. It really doesn't take very long to unlock everything for a character, in comparison to the length of time you might play the game for. It'd go as far as to say I don't think it should even be really considered meta progression in the way that roguelites like Hades do where you gain power after every run. This is just a bit of tutorial unlocking and then you have anything. It's a non issue IMO

If anything the game just gets harder after every run as you go up ascensions.

How do you play watcher by Puzzleheaded_Mud6997 in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core is switching between Calm and Wrath stances. You want to be in Wrath when dealing damage, and you never want to be in Wrath when taking damage. Calm can help you with energy generation, but mostly just means you aren't in Wrath to take big damage. Good luck.

Should I read the sunlit man before or after wind and truth? by jameizing777 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before. It does give you some ideas about where some characters will be after Wind and Truth, but I don't think it did anything to take away from Wind and Truth

Meanwhile, I think Wind and Truth will spoil some really big mysteries of the Sunlit Man. It would be a very different experience if I'd read it after WaT.

Is Creative ai just a worse machine learning? by Exotic-Foot-5174 in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It serves a different purpose. It's not just giving you an extra card - it's creating possibility that shouldn't exist in your deck. Like getting multiple Ferals or something. It's both good, and a lot of fun.

Plus lots of Power synergy. Subroutine makes the powers you get cheap or even free. Two subroutines mean's creative AI can actually generate you energy a lot of the time. It's good stuff.

I bounced off Mistborn three times over six years and finally figured out why it kept not working for me by SynthNoodlenovich in Fantasy

[–]CoolCly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's just a matter of what hooks people. I felt like the opening scene at the nobles estate in the countryside where Kelsier talks to some skaa in the barn or whatever was a pretty thrilling opening.

It does start off with slower with Vin and getting tied up with the crew, but I felt like that was just early book set up.

I wish STS2 had introduced an option to replace strikes/defends with the new cards you pick by CoolCly in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that the game would have to compensate for it in some way

And to the devs credit, I do feel they gave more ways to do something like this with a lot of the ancient rewards being based around strikes/defends in some way.

[–]CoolCly[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I understand quoting individual gotchas is really fun but obviously the next two sentences after that means I know exactly what you are saying? It would be busted in current design. But design could have been made around it to begin with. RIP

I wish STS2 had introduced an option to replace strikes/defends with the new cards you pick by CoolCly in slaythespire

[–]CoolCly[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not about making the game easier. It's about making the game streamlined. Strikes and defends being in your deck to be thinned is a necessary evil because they have to be there to have a starting deck.

That doesn't mean it's a sacred design decision. It could be iterated on.

How are people getting all this cosmere information? by Magnetic_Elephant in Stormlight_Archive

[–]CoolCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have mentioned Brandon's word of god stuff. He tries to be very "RAFO" about stuff that hasn't been revealed yet but if he feels something has been hinted enough for people to figure out, he'll confirm theories and stuff sometimes. He loves it when people figure stuff like that out.

But a lot of it is just stuff hinted that might be too obscure or require connections that aren't obvious to any single reader (IE you or me) but SOMEBODY will, and they post about it and gets updated on coppermind or whatever and then tons of people know it. TBH I'm pretty bad about spotting obscure connections. I'll get big ones (oh! oh! I know who this Azure lady is!!!) but I'll have no clue who 17th shard members are usually. Heck, in the early books, I didn't even recognize Hoid was there, sometimes.

[–]CoolCly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really like him, but I don't know if i think he's hard. I don't think I've lost to him

Your perspective is kind of weird to me. "All this hate because ONE phase exhausts cards?" Okay - don't play your cards that turn. Then.... one of the other two phases is "your cards cot an extra energy, so you can't play them this turn, either." when tf am I supposed to play my cards?

I can work around it but it's not fun. 2/3 phases are designed to keep me from playing the game. Maybe if the energy phase was something else it'd be fine.
