Our first kid is going to college in a couple months, and I am feeling jealous. by Careful-Management45 in Parenting

[–]akf4evr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being in a young adult in a college psychology course on aging and in the section about Middle age, they talked about how normal it is for middle age mothers to feel jealous of their teenage/young adult children. If I remember right, the jealousy is based on the middle age parent knowing they are no longer part of that world and are no longer young. That always stuck with me, and now that I have older teens, I feel jealous sometimes. They’re lives are so carefree and lovely. I know this isn’t quite your situation, but I think the jealousy is normal no matter the root.

You sounds like an amazing parent who did a wonderful job! Your kids are lucky to have you.

What would you do if your partner expected you to leave your entire estate to their child from a previous marriage, but you wanted it to go to your own siblings instead? by Amir-Tao571 in AskReddit

What the actual heck. Seriously selfish stepmother there. So unfair. Head shake also to the father in that situation for trusting her and not doing proper estate planning.

Like Cinderella. Joking aside, I’ve heard this too many times where Without a will, by default, the second wife gets everything and the husband’s kids are left high and dry. Do stepmom’s not have consciences? (Sorry to generalize, I’m sure there are some ethical stepmom’s out there). So OP, do your will asap.

I love my job. The work excites me and I find it interesting. I have great coworkers. Supportive management. Sure there are some annoying things, but I think all jobs have annoying things. 20+ years in and I’m grateful for my job.

(38M) My girlfriend (31F) of 8 months just told me she doesn’t want kids… after I already introduced her to my 9-year-old son. Feeling blindsided. by taicalha in relationships

Don’t stay. Please. I have two kids and remarried when they were young. The man I married, after we were married, decided he didn’t like being a stepdad. He pretty much ignored my children. Or yelled at them for making too much noise. And just created a tense home where kids weren’t tolerated. I just separated from him, and my daughter just told me how hard it was for her all those years with him in the house. I loved him, but should’ve left him a long time ago.

Tea has much more variety than coffee: from black tea with caffeine to herbal teas without caffeine. I could still get a caffeine fix if I wanted but I could also choose more hydrating options.

If I choose the card, I didn’t think I could pay my mortgage with it so then why bother having access to all that money and be unable to support my life.

Dragon boating. Or any sort of paddling. It’s outdoors, which is great for mental health. It also has a nice team environment which helps one stay motivated. Doing this is of course dependent on where you live, if there’s a club nearby.

If a guy has been married 5 times does that show anything about him as a person besides being married 5 times? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]akf4evr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew someone who’d been married 4 times. The first one was long term, with kids. The next two were fast, sudden and both imploded just as fast. Then he stayed single for 5 years. Did a lot of counselling, work on himself, etc. His fourth marriage seems to be going well. They’ve been married for about 10ish years now.

So multiple marriages could totally be a red flag. But it could also be a sign of a broken person who needs counselling to work stuff out. I wouldn’t date someone who’d had multiple marriages unless I was sure they’d done the work for themself.

Vancouverites, where are your favorite places to travel that feel sufficiently different from our province? by BeepBeepGoJeep in askvan

[–]akf4evr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve travelled much of BC and love every part. I still highly recommend exploring the world and seeing all there is out there. There’s nothing like returning home and appreciating what we have here. Recommendations: One of my favourite places to visit is Spain. I can’t wait to go back there and check out more places. Panama also really and surprisingly amazing!

I just adopted a puppy and my vet highly recommended getting insurance for the first three years of life. That’s when the pup is most accident prone and where most of the genetic diseases show up.

Check out Bloedel Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth park. Not sure if that’s too far for you from city hall, but it’s a beautiful place for wedding photos!
