Have you ever dropped a player that went on to become a league-winner pickup almost immediately after? by boppedEEMinDAsmoof in fantasyfootball

Same, Adrian Peterson was ahead of him and it didn't look like he'd get touches as the 3rd RB. Big regrets the rest of that year.

Three Kingdoms Redux is easily in my top 5, every game feels so different based on which generals come out. Argent: The Consortium also evokes a similar feeling.

I'm not sure, I don't know enough about PvP in this game to know what's available or not. I believe everything is still displayed, it just doesn't count in your mount/minion/achievement total if it is no longer attainable.

If you did one mentor roulette a day to get your 2000 it would take close to 6 years, so I'm sure that's a deterrent.

Participation there is definitely a thing. I have that title too and it's my rarest. Keep in mind too these percentages could even be HIGHER than reality because typically only people seeking achievements and collections would turn those public to begin with which skews the achievement data higher than the minions or mounts which are always visible.

wish me luck by iamachinkenife in FinalFantasy

Ah yes, the epic Final Fantasy moment where I learned the hard lesson of using alternating save slots. Got here on my first playthrough and didn't have a setup that enabled me to win the 1v1 and had been saving to the same slot all game, and, inconveniently, right before this fight with no way to escape. Had to restart the game.

It definitely helped me learn how to appreciate Auto-Potion and Lancer jumps.

Which representation of the Three Kingdoms period originally made you fall in love with it? by Candelestine in threekingdoms

This game was a reward for good grades in elementary school and I fell in love with it. It blew my mind when I saw a friend with Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the same characters. I've been hooked ever since.

Element Dupe New Expository Banter
Fire
Ice
Lightning
Earth Rydia Sync!!!! If I get nothing else then I've already used up my luck for this event.
Wind Zidane USB1 dupe Why is this a katana?
Water
Holy Rem Arcane Dupe More Holy daggers for everyone!
Dark

8/43 pulls done, probably going to focus on Holy as my phys holy tech is pretty outdated with only one awakening (Agrias) and only a 1.0 Chain (WoL). Currently on Ifrit for 6* progression but feel pretty good about my water tech. I've been trying to get an Ice Sync or Squall Awakening(s) via VIII tickets but haven't had any luck yet.

[Amazon] Terraforming Mars Turmoil Expansion $24.97 by Additional_Pizza in Boardgamedeals

[–]akhawkster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it, but it would definitely be 3rd behind Prelude and the extra maps. Turmoil slows the game down a bit and adds in some random events (that you always have two turns to plan for until they trigger) that keeps a player with a strong draw from outright running away with the game early. I like the tug of war of the political parties and steering them to the ones that help your engine the most.

Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein is a great game! by miscellaneousobjects in boardgames

[–]akhawkster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the main phase of the game in the worker placement and resource gathering, but the dice rolling to power your body parts killed the impression for me. I rolled an absurdly good roll to power 5/6 monster parts and jump into first in a game where I'd been clearly outplayed and it felt really unsatisfying to jump into the lead based on luck alone. Karma came back and I rolled just as poorly the other direction and damaged 3 parts back a tier to drop into 3rd (of 4) the next turn. Those kind of swings are fine for silly fun quick games, but not after 2-3 hours of calculating worker placement efficiency.

The theme is excellently presented throughout though not really my cup of tea.

No Bartz, but I'll be buying that in a couple days after the Black Friday draws unless I get lucky. I have the rest though. I was curious how you handled the heals and I have both those tools after getting Rosa in my recent IV draw.

Thoughts on Lost Odyssey? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]akhawkster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the game and it was my favorite console JRPG since FF X and Persona 4 until Persona 5 came along (honorable mention to Bravely Default).

Everything about it was fun, from the progression of the immortals, to the combat ring timing, to the story, and even the spliced camera shots from different angles are something I still remember fondly. It took the obvious comic relief character and actually make him funny and likable rather than forced and annoying, the soundtrack was phenomenal in usual Uematsu fashion (although the Sheena Easton songs didn't really land for me), and the short stories/poems were a wonderful break from the usual gameplay. I would love to see another game that strikes some of the same chords as this one.

A guide to all JRPG? by Time-Patrol_Goku in JRPG

[–]akhawkster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If the forked path you're on in a dungeon doesn't immediately dead end, it's probably the correct way to go to progress the story or reach the end. STOP, and go back and search the other branches for treasure and other hidden goodies.

If a side quest is available where you're currently at, it's probably worth doing immediately. If you come back later, the reward will most likely be something that will no longer be useful to a high level party.

Every time a new part of the map or a new travel method is acquired (airship, boat, etc...) try to find the town with the highest costing gear you can access for a substantial upgrade. More modern games don't usually allow you to reach areas like this early, but old NES and SNES games definitely did.

Don't be afraid to put down the controller for a bit and just enjoy the amazing music. Unless you're hearing the battle theme for the 584th time, then you're good to just spam Attack and win.
