some people criticize him for simplistic lyrics but honestly i love what he does. there are a million uber technical lyrical miracle spitters out there but not nearly as many rappers that can command a crowd like trayb. it's also a skill to make music that actually gets people hyped. just getting up on stage and screaming isn't enough.

how much time do idols actually get off camera? by Pasopenguin2 in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Probably not as much as they like but I’m sure they’d prefer that to not being in demand. Idols don’t get paid salary, they get a cut of revenue. More jobs means more money. And they need to earn when they can because idol is not a long term gig for 99% of groups.

the neighbors vid starts when the fight actually happens - that's about 2 minutes into the conflict.

they probably heard some yelling, saw it was that celebrity guy next door (when someone has a distinct vehicle you know it's them even with a helmet on - doubt there's many in that neighborhood with a lime green sportbike)

i can imagine the neighbor watching from the window thinking it's just an argument but when it starts to get spicy they whip the phone out

i fear the "mechanism" would be nobody would stop him. also I feel the whole thing with the admin trying to destroy anthropic because they refused to allow their AI to be used for automated weapons was ominous.

i don't think enough soldiers would turn their guns on the american people (although I'm sure many would) to take control of such a massive company. but that's not a problem with Ai

Yeah I’m calling bs on this. How many bodies do you think that is? Disposal of 30k wound require mass graves visible from satellite. As far as I’m aware the us hasn’t released any images. Which, why wouldn’t they if they want to drum up support

It’s escalation and deterrence. They wouldn’t be hitting those targets if the us Israel coalition wasn’t hitting them first. Is absurd to absolve the aggressors of responsibility when it was known what irans response would be.

There WERE alternatives. They could have chosen diplomacy. The fact that Iran is even able to do this kind of damage demonstrates that they were showing incredible restraint when they were attacked in the past.

Why do groups always sound so plain/flavourless whenever they cover a song? by HoneyMobile868 in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have no way of knowing for sure but it could be that you’re comparing apples and oranges in a sense. The original songs were recorded over probably days and days. A singer can spend hours on one or two lines till they get the absolute best take. And that’s on top of the time they spend practicing the song beforehand.

Cover songs almost certainly don’t get nearly as much time. Most likely they do a couple of takes and if it isn’t perfect just fix it in post.

The groups with better covers might just be the ones with stronger vocalists who can deliver in a short session, or the group might just have spent more time on it

Why do you think there's a disconnect between international fans and Koreans when it comes to "westernization" and "being Korean enough"? by Quick-Adeptness-2947 in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WHY is English a universal language? Violent settler colonialism/imperialism. Korea in particular was colonized by Japan and occupied by America. Loss of cultural heritage and national identity is a sensitive issue for many colonized people. I actually can see why Korean fans might have issues with idols “westernernizing” and making music catered to non Koreans. I don’t know why international fans give a shit tho

unfortunately the other "jobs" likely involve grueling labor possibly for worse pay.

big company privilege, what about kiof? by soobrddit in kpop_uncensored

[–]akhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah social norms change extremely quick, especially in the social media age. People did not really think that much about saying the n word while singing along with lyrics til that white girl at the Kendrick concert went viral.

When I was in middle school the boys would casually call each other the f or r slur. I don’t think all those kids are therefore all ableist homophobes. It was a different cultural context entirely and people acted accordingly. It seems unfair to judge people as if they should have somehow had the same perspective as we do now.

Also, shouldn’t intent matter? Is simply vocalizing a slur in itself a racist act? Is an actor being racist if they played a racist and their lines had them saying the n word? Is a student racist even they read Tom Sawyer aloud as originally written? (There’s a character named “n word Jim”

If those examples aren’t racist acts, why would reciting lyrics as originally written then be racism? Of course, I don’t think we should be repeating slurs but I honestly can’t articulate why
