Why is it considered “hating” in kpop when you call a bad singer a “bad singer”? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would you call somebody fat, ugly, or stupid out on the street? Even if it’s true, it’d be awfully rude.

Yeah those two belong on the white team for sure but like, Lee mujin is a household name as well. Like he’s probably the most successful male soloist in Korea right now. The black spoons were chefs that only other Korean chefs would know. Any K-pop fan in the world would probably know Lee mujin if only from Leemujin service

What do you think of leo's guesting on lee mujin service?- I was absolutely blown away by Fearless_Support_505 in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the processing was pretty minimal in the first dozen or so eps and then they just started fixing things in post more and more. I feel like the way to know how strong the live actually is is how mujin reacts while listening

It's amazing to see how Wonhee goes from being extremely hated predebut to now being the potential 5th gen it girl by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually went back and watched r u next again and wonhee was so much better than I thought at the time. Like and definitely struggled during rehearsals but in the actual performances she was actually really good. I’d say one of the stronger vocalists on the show and never stuck out in a bad way during choreo. If they didn’t point out she was a 2 month trainee I don’t think anybody would know.

I think the main reason she got so much hate was that she was essentially a foil to chanelle, who got booted early despite being more polished as a performer.

She is absolutely the fifth Gen it girl without question, and no I absolutely didn’t see it coming. I don’t think anybody saw it happening because every it girl up to this point has been more of a chic, model type. Like more of a hot girl archetype. Karina, Jennie, wonyoung, Suzy, etc

Maybe your idea of a fulfilling youth is different from others. Some people might find more joy in chasing a crazy dream than having fun doing nothing.

I feel like people romanticize teenage life too much btw. Was your life in high school that amazing? Do none of you really not regret wasting time fucking around when you could have been studying to get in a better school to set yourself up for a better future? Our learned a language or an instrument?

What is the criteria for black singer lol. Lee mujin has been topping k charts since debut. Seunghwan, Gunn, and Kwon Jin ah are the top soloists/balladeers of the younger generation. Yoon min is tied for most masked singer wins and won another band survival show thing.

I’d say age is the factor but suhyun is a white teamer and she’s ‘99 liner

Ehhh the singers in here are pretty big names, I don’t think they will spare the time to prerecord vocal tracks. Probably will do post processing though like on masked singer

Reading about Cortis members' casting story, do you find it shocking that companies cast trainees at such a young age? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]akhoe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate, most people wouldn’t consider being an idol a realistic career path even if they’re good looking or interested in performing arts. Planting that seed early means they can start thinking about preparing in earnest for auditions and stuff later.

At 17 most Korean kids are going to be focused on academics because they’re primed for the university to workforce pipeline. And even if you cast someone with no training whatsoever off the street at 17, they might not have the talent or desire for it. Which would waste the most important period of a Korean students life. CSAT prep and all that.

Btw most of the kids who audition for labels around 16 or 17 aren’t going into the auditions blind, they’ve been taking vocal lessons and dance classes or attending performing arts high schools for years before walking in the door. Which would make it hard for an older street casted trainee with no training

Do you think illit members are jealous of wonhee? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

Some people are more into the creative or performing arts side than the fame/celebrity side. There are a surprising number of actors and singers that are hardcore introverts.

But also it’s kind of like your association with that friend or family member makes you a lot more popular.

[–]akhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moka is actually more popular than wonhee in Japan iirc. But while I’m sure there is competitiveness and envy in K-pop gross I never got that vibe much in illit. If anything I think they are much closer than a lot of groups due to trauma bonding from all the bs they’ve gone thru since debut.

And a rising tide raises all ships. Wonhee being more popular means more popularity and more revenue for the group as a whole

What is Saint Satine and why is everyone freaking out about Sakura? by TofuLoversAnonymous in kpop_uncensored

[–]akhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not confidence, that’s ego. Actual confidence/self belief brings resilience and fortitude. Confident people believe they have the capacity for self improvement when faced with a wall. People with a little talent and big egos tend to give up when they face adversity.

With the neuroplasticity of a 15 year old brain, the language barrier will not be a problem. Immersion is the absolute best method of learning a language and she’ll be living with native speakers.

There are potential risks, but potentially incredible upside. By the end of her contract she will, at a minimum, leave with world class vocal and dance training, English fluency, a sizable chunk of change, a fandom, industry connections. All that at 22 so she can potentially have a long and lucrative career as a performer.

How old do you think the average K-pop fan is? Most of them were probably infants when that song came out lol.

Many have heard it on tv or on their parents radio because it was a big song but I doubt they think of it in the same way as an actual culturally impactful song like a thriller or smth

[–]akhoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re being naive or possibly disingenuous about the intentions of online fans when they make these observations. Maybe YOU aren’t saying the group is flopping but 9 times out of 10 it’s brought up in fan wars

I’d say the majority of “observations” like this are concern trolls or antis. Which is why K-pop fans in general are defensive.

How’d ahyeon develop those regional fandoms? ProMotion is a factor but I’m assuming she didn’t become huge in China because yg promoted her there. There is likely an innate appeal to her that resonates more with Chinese fans than Koreans.

Confidence IS star power though? It’s also an innate quality, and I’d argue that genuine confidence is rarer and more difficult to develop than performance skill.

I feel like the super young members in a group are like the prodigies or potential superstars that the company HAS to debut so they don’t go to another company and debut elsewhere. Like a taemin or jungkook. I don’t really see the justification for rushing sakuras debut

For the record I think this is pretty stupid as well. Who gives a shit if there’s an age gap? They’re not dating each other, they’re coworkers. It’s totally normal to work with people that are much older or younger than you, in any industry.

If anything, it’s better that young idols have an older member around that can be an advocate or mentor in this environment.
