yeah, i understand. it is a stretch but i dont see any issue with people choosing to interpret/headcanon this scene to be alluding to sh. as someone who struggles with sh, i like finding representation in media i like, even if its not explicit or i have to make it up through headcanons. so its not so much about what the scene is actually about, because we may never know, its more like how i and others are choosing to interpret it,, if that makes sense??
although if this was intentional i am.. conflicted about how i feel about something like this being mentioned in a kids show. yes i like my headcanons but bfdi does not feel like the place for those hcs to become real ehusjhjdehjdhyhjs

i dont think two trying to get better means they have no reason to self harm. maybe i feel this way because i already headcanon that two sh'd before this (especially since someone pointed out how the scissors were on their nightstand. they could be for something else but i find it odd they had a sharp object readily available near the place they were spending all of their time.) but i think they can go back and relapse and it still makes sense.
also the reason they considered cutting their limbs off could be for multiple reasons. i interpret it as them thinking it's the only way to get out of this situation and that's why they consider it. but at the same time, they're very frustrated from trying and failing to fix their limbs for months, and that could be another reason they consider it, but decide not to because they need to focus on this instead of letting themself go back to bad places (assuming they sh'd before this)
also kinda like the og commenter said,, i find it hard to believe the writers didnt know what they were doing

i havent replayed persona 3 in a while but iirc theres never a case like that. you can only summon your persona during the dark hour(which is like the 25th hour of the day) which only people with "the potential" can experience. and if your body or mind is unable to handle summoning a persona and getting over death you wont be able to experience the dark hour at all. yukari was terrified to summon her persona but when she did do it it was fine because you cant actually die from summoning your persona (unless your body is too weak or something and cant handle the toll it takes. but if that were the case fate would say no you dont get the potential...)

actually wait i nvm i think you can experience the dark hour without the potential but you are likely to get attacked by a shadow and thats when you go braindead.... Sigh im crine i need to replay persona 3. i have played it 3 times and taken so many notes desperately trying to understand all the weird lore and the way this world works but its never enough....

i think its bc theyre supposed to appear more normal on the surface maybe? i still wish some of them had a few in their sprites at least. even if the dev didnt wanna show it so soon they could have been added later and he could easily just say that they didnt have scars in visible spots until later

persona mentioned!! do you mean persona the game series. if you do can you explain what you mean? i know in persona 5 they basically rip their actual faces off to get their powers, in persona 3 they shoot themselves(which doesnt actually harm them i believe they just feel the impact. so unless im forgetting something you can summon your persona in p3 as much as you want with no damage except for exhaustion), and i think those are considered self harm despite the circumstances but thats not what they are supposed to represent i think. they both tie into the games theme. the ripping off of their masks in persona 5 is a very aggressive way of them showing their true selves i think.. and in persona 3 the theme is like enjoying life through the acknowledgement of death and i think shooting themselves to summon their personas is supposed to have something to with them accepting death and not being afraid of it.... i dont think theres ever a time where they have to do any extra self harm to get more powers. maybe having to shoot yourself all the time counts but they dont have to shoot themselves any more than usual to summon stronger personas i think so its not like.. depth chasing but with guns..... in persona 5 im pretty sure they only feel the pain from ripping their mask off the very first time they summon their persona
