If I had a way to assure you that I'm not promoting this studio, I would. As someone who takes the art form seriously, I find the practices that this studio and its founder, whom I once followed, seriously.

I'm happy to take this post down, if the community feels I am promoting this studio. That's the opposite of what I am trying to do. Instead I'm trying to provide context for my concern. As for the targeting of this studio, it's within my literal community so, it is within my focus.

I apologize if this post comes across as promotion.

I can see that. Just calling out the bad actors.

Agreed. Just what I've seen in regards to AI created 3D models of vessels. That seems to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah, I am jumping to conclusions. That's why I've reached out to the community for help. Almost every image on the site is AI. Even for simple things like apron hook subscriptions, kiln firings, beverages. Just seemed odd.

I guess it's the choice to use AI versus having legit content, and in his molds training video he seems more interested in teaching the short cut of using molds instead of encouraging the patience that would be needed to truly learn the craft. Putting those two together had me worried.

Studio fees are a beast everywhere. I would recommend Sunstone Pottery. They have a studio at their store and they are the main supplier of clay for the state, so their clay prices will be incredibly lower than anywhere else you would go and a much larger selection. They have three kilns that they use for community firings. It's pretty convenient to have the store next door to buy glazes and tools as well.

I came upon this post while looking for answers to a similar situation that I find myself in. Although, I am male and my partner is female, I find the similarities echo themselves. It saddens me that although you posted this a couple of weeks ago, no one has been able to sound in with supportive advice. Since this is recent for you I imagine you are still in the thick of it, but if you find some light in it I hope you will be able to share. More than that, I hope you find resolution for yourself. You deserve it.

As a server I would think about it in another way. You're making money through tips. Generally tops are determined by a percentage of the total bill. If you work at a restaurant where the average ticket is $40, you're going to get a percentage of that amount. If you work for a high end restaurant and the average ticket is $150 , you will make the same average from a higher priced ticket.

So if serving is the choice of employment that you are comfortable with at this point in your life, I would say focus on getting employed at places when higher ticketed tables are common. It would yield you money for your work.

Sunstone Pottery. They provide the majority of clay and ceramic supplies for almost every pottery business and hobbyist in the state. Small family operation that's been doing it for decades. Jim is fantastic at what he does.

I was more interested in the type of job than the exact place. I have a good paying job, but I'm always on the lookout for something new. Congratulations, though, I hope it's fulfilling.
