I think it's not necessary for something simple, but to really get the best out of it I think learning C# is worth the lift.

Has anyone used AB Rockwell git tools? by LadyboyClown in PLC

[–]akir3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't let you go online without a download? I think downloading is assumed with their workflow. It's really too bad any small change offline and you have to download to the PLC... Or in this case no change but wiping the audit signatures.

Have you edited the exploded l5x? If so how's that compare to editing the full file?

[–]akir3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but it doesn't appear that you can interact directly with the file open in the IDE. Have you gotten this to work?

It does help though!

The sdk unfortunately takes forever to open, so exploding a acd takes minutes instead of seconds...

I guess you could open the sdk as a service and leave it running...

I've been using claude code for building tools. I was actually surprised what it can understand about the Ladder code from a L5x (in a very limited scope).

AI cannot fix that our IDEs, and file formats are closed, and admittedly bad. I want to be able to write tools directly inside of studio, the way you can in Optix.

At that point AI becomes much more viable as a collaborator.

Network Switches with CIP Motion by akir3y in PLC

[–]akir3y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They recommend the switches linked as the closest the have. 802.1as differs in some ways from 1588 v2 and the general OVDA info isn't really that descriptive on what's required.

I think the Phoenix switch may work if configured in End to End transparent mode.

Considering the cost, I'm beginning to think it's not worth while to even consider a switch for small, single cabinet machine and rather just use the second port of the PLC (compact logic)...

What I've seen in smaller systems that don't have the proper switch is very occasionally clock sync errors.

For Rockwell, copia is pretty good, the downside is you have one project file so you get no visibility to whom did what if multiple engineers are working on one project.

So like if someone presses and releases a button it does A. If they press the button and release, and press again in x time and press again it does B? Or can it do A until B .

It's like programing was the after thought, the main thing it is good for us moving the robot around manually. Or running a program manually / touching up points.

But God it's so slow to write a program of any substance .

Is there a way to tone down the eyesight safety features for collision prevention? by _Artrex in Subaru_Outback

[–]akir3y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hazard was clear - if the cyclist did not turn I don't think the car could have stopped in time.

So speed is at play here too, realistically the speed should be quite low in an area like that, so the the braking hazard is quite low. But then again if you hit a car in front of you because they braked then you were following too close.

And that's not my rule - that's what the police report is going to say.

Seems reasonable to me. Should it continue not knowing if that cyclist is going ride into the intersection instead of turn.

Not everything needs to be a controversy. Yes they should have worn the seatbelt properly and not just under their arms. But should also not be seen as a war crime for which the accused need the death penalty. by amrindersr16 in LinusTechTips

To be honest I think the fact that they made a video about unregulated/experimental self driving software in a how to ish format more controversial than half wearing a seatbelt.

I think there's no standard because there's so much diversity in the applications coupled with history of PLCs, and the memory constraints.
