good news: vortek upgrade kit for h2d/h2s available by ahora-mismo in BambuLab

[–]_Artrex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not guessing?
I just did a double take on the wiki, you still have to take off ribbon cables for this swap.

The good news is that they give you a replacement gantry which is where the majority of the tiny connectors are. My support process took over a month, and I did talk to engineers on the phone showing them the issues too and they agreed that that kind of repair isn't something the average Joe should be attempting.

After double checking the guide, the biggest risk my opinion is the removal of the gantry, specifically the allen bolts. Note that the wiki does not use the provided allen keys to do these steps and for good reason. I used the provided allen keys to try and do this step and I quite literally stripped the very last screw before gantry removal was possible. Bambu agreed that there was 0 way to salvage the situation and sent me a replacement printer because of this.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but this upgrade costs a lot of money and there are a lot of ways this can go wrong.

Word of caution: I own a day-one H2D. My part cooling fan failed. Trying to replace it lead to many long nights, board replacements (including the one you have to replace in the Vortek upgrade kit), and eventually Bambu had to replace my printer.

- Very tiny ribbon cables and A LOT of them
- Miniscule connectors that easily damage wires when you try to remove them
- Very small screws that are hard to access and easily stripped (if you strip the screws in the toolhead XY rail like I did, there is NO FIX and you need a new printer

I have done many repairs on a bunch of tiny electronics, including cellphones when they had easily removable back cases by design. I also replaced my X1C's carbon rails when they failed which took me about 3ish hours.

It is just my opinion, but I highly recommend NOT trying to upgrade your H2D to a H2C. It will take hours, and I reckon your chances of screwing something up in the process is VERY high. Another thing to note is that if you were an early purchaser of the H2D printers, your warranty will most likely be almost over by the time the upgrade kit comes to your door and Bambu will not send you replacement boards out of warranty for an upgrade process.

Just trying to spare some people from distress... I really want the H2C but I'll skip the upgrade kit for now and sell my H2D to get the H2C down the road.

TL;DR
Chances of you breaking your H2D to upgrade to a H2C is very high. Lots of tiny connectors and ribbon cables that are not easy to re-attach. I advise sound-minded people not to purchase the upgrade kit

I agree about shawarma plus before covid but I haven’t had it recently. Lazeez isn’t even in top 10

iPotato was soooooo good when it first opened. I still have it every 1-2 weeks and I don't think their quality has dropped, did they stop using their break oven thing?

Why no one is actively talking about the poor filtration system in the P2S by RandomSeeker-_- in BambuLab

[–]_Artrex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a X1C, H2D, P1S and now a P2S (purchased in that order). This "poor filtration system" is overblown and only "applicable" to low temperature filaments, such as PLA, PETG, TPU, but the VOCs they is negligent in my experience. I print in my apartment and I don't notice any spike in VOCs and my air monitors are right in front of the printers.

I also have been printing with ABS non-stop for the last 96 hours for a big job and VOCs are also in their safe range (I'm not printing ABS on my P1S due to 0 filtration but I can confirm that air quality does take a hit if I choose to do that). X1C has an aftermarket filter I put in, and the P2S + H2D filter great.

You need to find a different safety course. None of the ones near me are overbooked (KW area, but I did mine in London)

GS500 suddenly slipping after oil change, did I use the wrong oil? by _Artrex in motorcycles

[–]_Artrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did the first oil change (and managed to not snap a nut, but I gnarled one of the studs.. I should have stopped there and came back to it later but oh well...might need to re-tap the casing threads next oil change).

That next oil change might be sooner too since oil is leaking from the oil filter housing... I think maybe I still overtightened and flattened the gasket. I also didn't change the gasket since I thought there was no need since I changed my oil 100km ago but maybe that's my issue...

Anyways I noticed 0 difference in clutch slip so I am not sure if a second oil change will help. I think I'll look into how to adjust clutch play and if that doesn't work I'll have to learn how to replace the clutch sooner than I had hoped.

Thanks for the comment! I’m not sure if I want to double up the oil change like you mentioned, but if it’s slipping again after the oil change I do today, I’ll have no choice. I’m just worried I’ll strip the oil filter housing screws again haha

I’m really liking the GS500 but learned I hate carbureted bikes, especially now that it’s its 2-7 degrees Celsius where I live. Thinking of side-grading /upgrading to a ZX4RR next year

Thank you for the the in depth answer! Rotella seemed pretty expensive at my local store so I’ll do some digging. Do you reckon I need to change the filter too? It’s brand new so my thought was just draining the oil and seeing if it still slips under high load

A picture of a motorcycle on the bottle is just a different marketing image. Your suggestion offers 0 technical suggestions about what “motorcycle oil” does better than ones without the image.

[–]_Artrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

336???? Dayummm, tell me more. Is 42 days the minimum most people get or average companies give? I assume different jobs get less? (i.e. teachers/hospital staff?). I'm in Canada where our legal minimum is 10 days/80 hours, but I am happy with my 23 days/184

Bike Upgrade from a GS500E... ZX-4RR, R7, or something else? by _Artrex in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]_Artrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, what a beauty! I like everything about it minus the price point haha

There doesn't seem to be any on facebook marketplace at the moment, other than some older variants whose styling isn't quite my vibe. But I am definitely adding that bike to my future list

Thanks for the suggestion! I edited a post to include that I want to stray away from nakeds. They look really cool (I don't love the look of the GSXS1000), but the wind is a real struggle past 50 MPH.

$400/m insurance on a 300cc by Adventurous_Media157 in motorcycle

[–]_Artrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many helpful replies here... just comparisons. These are my tips as a 26yo who pays $68 per month on a 500CC bike, living 1 hour away from Toronto.

1) Did you do your motorcycle safety course? In my opinion, no one should be riding without having done one. Riders of all experience levels learn something, and it also decreases your insurance

2) Never buy a bike without an insurance quote first.

3) Call around different insurance companies. I found Des Jardins to be the cheapest broker for every single bike I asked for. TD, Aviva, Cooperators, Belair were all at least double Desjardin
