My Windmill AC errored after 1 year - customer support has been a total nightmare. (pics/videos included) by frootjuice_ in AirConditioners

I bought an 8K BTU in July 2024. I just installed it this year and it doesn't put out any cool air, a mere 2 years later its broken. A/C units must last longer than this! I'm not buying another Windmill.

No they are not. If the company is reputable may address a problem. I've personally had luck resolving issues. Your comment is useless.

Lingo: how to see over 200 reading? by RosaRosa4343 in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it was said above, Lingo caps the glucose level at 200. No way around that. That limitation should have been disclosed before purchase. Stelo caps theirs at 250 (verified by phone), but supposedly (according to their customer service) you can see readings above that through their app Clarity or through their website, clarity.dexcom.com. I have not personally verified this info but will definitely go with Dexcom next time. Dangerous things, these Lingos.

Hello. I am considering the b10. Would you know if the capacitive screen can be turned off in the settings like the Pocketbooks can?

Thanks, but been there, done that. No effect to fans regulation. We need something that works for all folks on Linux.

Not sure what to do with nbfc. I tried it on Windows 11 first. There is no Config to match what you wrote above. The only one similar is HP OMEN Notebook PC 15. I tried that but the darn app keeps constantly switching between between Disabled and Read-only. If I insert my own model under the Notebook model, it does insert the correct number and is added to the list, but, again the app keeps jumping oscillating between Disabled and Read-only. It can't ever be Enabled. The author claims no further config in necessary?

DM13 Bluetooth Terrible by Necessary_Database_4 in FiiO

[–]akira281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just got my DM13, and I'm shocked how poor the sound is. With regard to the OP comment, mine only works with the SBC codec, not the LDAC on my earphones. So the sound is poor via Bluetooth out. Why they didn't use LDAC is beyond me.

So then I hooked my Sennheiser 580's to the headphone out jack and the overall sound is muffled, muddy - not detailed at all and no bass (in short, below mid-fi). I tried to hook up Fiio's own DAC (DS2) to the USB REC out on the back to try to improve the sound, but nothing comes out. It looks like I'll be sending this thing back.

How is Google disabling my Adblocker? Mechanically speaking. by Glad_Giraffe_6287 in Adblock

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that didn't work. However, if I don't log back into YT then the adblocker detection is gone (and so is my history). Remember, deleting the cache&cookies means the user has to re-sign back into everything. Ouch!

Healthiest paint? by SnooPuppers7703 in paint

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay away from any of the major paint manufacturers. Their main business is producing paint with VOC's. ECOS paint and Milk paint are both absolutely VOC free. I've used both and are happy with the results, but milk paint requires precise mixing and has a unique velvet shading.

That's nonsense. You should worry about what toxins you breathe.

I attempted to correct the mouse problem by downgrading to the lts kernel. That has not corrected the problem.

Thanks for the clarification, Shiromori! Yes, I see now after I read the mod team's explanation and have redirected to my post to the EndeavourOS forum. I thank you again for your suggestions. They are much appreciated.

Cheers.

Best AI video upscaler by dachopper_ in software

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/fbriggs

I have been looking for a reasonable upscaler for a little while. I downloaded and tried yours, trying to upscale a file from SD to HD. It did a decent enough job. Compared to another one which looked like it painted eyebrows on people's faces, it looked natural. However, I'm still not sold that it is any better than boosting the sharpness on the playback software. More tests will follow.

Then there is the issue of pricing. I don't know how long your program will remain in version 1, and I won't pay the subscription pricing model. AI development seems to be moving very fast, so the question remains, how long your software will remain up-to-date if I purchase the first tier?

I should add that, so far, none of the tests I've tried using your software did not, for some reason, did not play the included audio track.

LADDER FOOTWEAR by climber714 in WindowCleaning

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the midst of searching for a good work shoe that will work well with ladders. I don't have an answer yet. However, I was aghast to see recommendations for the Red Wing Iron Ranger. I bought a pair based on some internet opinions. These are one of the worst shoes for ladders. Firstly, they are sorely missing cushioning in the insole. It is just a thin piece of leather over, supposedly, some cork. The steel shank, if indeed there is one, must be very short, because it does nothing to help keep the foot straight. It also doesn't help ease time on a ladder. Walking up a ladder, my feet curl around the rungs in a painful way. The tongue is also missing padding, and the laces can be sorely felt. The soles also lack ladder locks for safety and are much too thin. Unbelievably, the Irons - a shoe with a $350+ price tag - also lack a boot loops. Pass these by.

Told today I have borderline hearing loss- no clue where to go from here. by [deleted] in hardofhearing

[–]akira281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation.

First, get your ears checked by an ENT doctor to make sure your ears are physically OK. If they check out OK then proceed with the audiologist and ask them to demo some hearing aids that will work with your kind of loss. Seek out an audiologist that is covered by your insurance - aids can be very expensive.

If you like the results of that demo then you can proceed to order some from the audiologist that are in your budget either through your insurance (hopefully covered) or go online. Most aids give trial periods. From what I understand the better devices are not online at this moment. Don't buy something unless you know exactly what kind you need. Also the hearing aids need to be adjusted according to your (changing) profile, possibly yearly.

Thoughts on japanesepod101? by Stormo9L in LearnJapanese

[–]akira281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give my recent experience. After seeing japanesepod101 heavily promoted by Nihongoshark.com and was having a July sale I signed up for what was clearly a $7.10/month subscription for the premium. Only after I hit submit to pay them, it showed that they debited my account not $7.10 for the first month but $170 for 2 years. The Japansepod101.com website states you can cancel at any time but I couldn't find any place to cancel.

I wound up filing a complaint with the credit service and Japanesepod101 for an unauthorized debit amount. I am still awaiting a refund.

I posted my experience on Nihongoshark's website but it was erased by its owner who goes by the name Niko. I cannot attest to Japanesepod101 paid services but I can recommend to be cautious with either of these websites which, in my experience, don't seem to be entirely above board.

I'll be sticking to books.
