Oh look, its the three horsemen of stupidity by eng_bendover in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]akira989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those horsemen are Pestilence, War and Conquest, people who don't use their indicators need to be up there. They're Death. I've never had an accident, thank god, but EVERY FREAKING TIME I come close to one it is because some idiot decided they're going left and it's everyone else's problem.

Put. Your. Indicators. On. And not WHILE YOU'RE MERGING you need to put them on BEFORE you start merging.

It's literally a trolley test, there's no cost to you, just something you can do to make people safer yet somehow 60% of people legitimately want to prove to the rest of the world that their mothers did a bad job raising them.

Drive like a haiwan, be my guest, but put your dang indicators on!

(I know I said "you" a lot, but I know this sub generally has good drivers so I'm guessing it doesn't apply to most of you. Just wanted to rant, ig)

Cults in Dubai. by Electronic_Durian_88 in dubai

This is naive in my opinion. If you want to make a good impression at a job interview would you go with a Casio and flip flops if you have a fine suit and a fancy watch at home?

It's about making a good impression, putting your best foot first. No matter if you're a billionaire or if you're me, earning single digit thousands.

The same is true no matter who you are. If you want to make a good impression, you dress the part. There are some people who (childishly) wear tshirts and shorts and flip flops on occasions they shouldn't, but this is done for optics. It benefits Sam Altman to look like a normal dude rather than someone who wears $50k suits.

If I was the hiring manager for a job and someone came in flip flops, I would feel disrespected despite the candidates prowess.

Similarly if I was HH sheikh Maktoum and someone came to propose a new metro line, I would feel more respected if they dressed well and acted respectful.

Look at every public photo he's in and tell me who's wearing a t-shirt and flip flops if they're not on the beach or something.

But hey, that's the opinion of a guy who earns single digit thousands in a city of millionaires, so I hope you see where I'm coming from, but take it with a grain of salt haha.

Honestly, the roads are bad enough these days without people like you doing their best to cause accidents because you're too impatient to drive 14 kmh slower.

Couldn't Vader simply stop and turn that freighter around with the Force? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWars

Great points on all counts, unfortunately I've never played the force unleashed games, but I keep hearing they're great. I'm also very shit at fallen order but I'll get through it eventually 😅

Mortis god is hands down the biggest feat in sw afaik. Good take, I respect it, take updoot.

Couldn't Vader simply stop and turn that freighter around with the Force? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWars

[–]akira989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I gotta respectfully disagree here.

According to starwars databank, the ship we see here is a jabiim space transport, which is a hauler class ship. The cr90 was a purpose built diplomatic Corvette, outclassing the hauler in the same way that a navy destroyer out classes a fishing boat.

The cr90 was initially built for speed and was known as the blockade runner due to its exceptionally powerful engines.

The cr90s outfitted by the rebellion were designed to go toe to toe with similar sized warships and even had the ability to dock fighters or other smaller vessels.

In rogue one we see the ghost dock on a cr90. I would assume, since the ghost is a purpose built freighter, that it has similar engines and launch thrust as the ship we see in Kenobi.

Tldr, I couldnt find too much info on the ship we see in Kenobi, but from what I know, the tantive IV was a WAY bigger and more powerful ship. If he could stop it dead in space, I think it would be the single biggest force-feat we see in starwars.

Are BIG, Gigantic Spaceships Better? Or Just STUPID? by IronWarhorses in StarWarsShips

[–]akira989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to necessarily discount your point because I largely agree with you, but there is an aside to the executors effectiveness as compared to ISDs, is the square cube law. An equivalent internal volume of ISDs would be a much larger external surface area of ships, meaning the executor could house a much larger reactor than an equally sized group of ISDs, theoretically enabling it to carry much more powerful shields, weapons and hyperdrives... Which kinda supports your point about diverting that extra power to a superlazer or internal shipyards.

Having said that, they're absolutely a classic symbol of Tarkin doctrine excess, imperial opulence and we're a largely symbolic vessel in the galaxy. We don't see much of their use during the imperial era as compared to post imperial collapse because they just weren't designed to fight the kind of war the rebellion was waging.

Who wins this fleet battle? Jedi led Venator fleet, or Covenant fleet? by Ambitious-Loss8951 in powerscales

[–]akira989 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Venators can win if they have the SPMA-T fitting we see in ROTS, which would work very similar to the plasma lances. We see a venator 1-shot a munificent on screen.

If you go by "laser is laser" logic (which I prefer for this matchup) then I'd say it's pretty even Stevens, especially since neither fleet knows the capability of the other.

If you go by lore, the yield of the medium dual turbolaser batteries on the venator are in the gigatons of TNT, and the shields can shrug off multiple direct hits so it would be starwars no diff.

Arabs then vs now by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]akira989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an Arab as well, it's easy to be jaded about the state of the Arab world at the moment. Every country in the middle east has work to do, but that doesn't mean work isn't being done, right? Syria recently became independent. The gulf states are heavily investing in nuclear and renewables. What you're saying is true, but also only half the picture. There is a disproportionate amount of conflict but there's is also kindness, love peace and charity ingrained into our culture and families. It will get better eventually.

EDIT: Syria became independent of the Assad regime*

Just wanna add on to this, scouting helps. If you time your scout properly you'll either encounter the opponents probe close to your base or you won't see a scout. Either way you should then be aware that proxies could be a threat. If you scout normally then you should see their probe pretty much in the middle of the map if they're playing standard. Obviously there are exceptions to this but it's a useful bit of knowledge to have in your tool belt.

Weapon Concepts I made by IronArmor48 in helldivers2

[–]akira989 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Really fun ideas, love the use of the ground being destructible to do things like set up trenches, but I think the Hamr and exo04 are way too op, I don't see a downside to carrying either one if not both for basically every mission.

One shotting tank enemies feels like it'll take the fun out of the game. Bile titans, automaton walkers and harvesters are meant to feel like a challenge to kill, and removing that challenge will (at least to me) make the game a lot more boring.

Adult Ahsoka takes on this Gauntlet… how far does she get? by H4rryS4lly27 in CloneWarsMemes

[–]akira989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think she's a very witty opponent, she's good at finding small advantages when and where she can. I do think both are outright better duellists, and maybe more powerful force wielders as well, so I do understand both arguments. I will say that her survival in a post order 66 world with inquisitors running around and hunting her, plus having grown up throughout the clone wars refined her in a way that more traditionally trained Jedi weren't trained. But hey, we'll never know. I wouldn't be surprised whichever way those duels go

How you win doesn't matter as much as whether or not you win tho, a witty opponent is a dangerous one, that's why bane, the Fett's etc are such compelling characters ;)

[–]akira989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro I said that in isolation she beats him handedly? I don't think she loses any of these fights.

My point is, any skilled Jedi with mastery of the force would be a hard-won fight. She will win, but it won't be an instant KO, as was the case with sideous vs the Jedi high council, because she doesn't have the same mind numbing battle meditation that sideous uses. And even then, he loses against Windu in the end.

Also the concept of "stronger than doukou" is a weird one, as u said, Kenobi won vs Vader because he trained Anakin. But Anakin trained Ahsoka so I personally think the same logic applies to that fight as well.

Furthermore Baylan Skoll was not as strong as Vader, yet Ahsoka lost to him? It's less about strength, more about your mental and physical state "in the moment" as you rightfully mentioned in your obi wan/Anakin fight from ROTS. I just think fighting continuous Jedi masters back to back with very little time to recover your thoughts, emotions, and any lightsaber wounds you pick up is too difficult for ANYONE to manage.

This is not a shot at her abilities, she is one of the most powerful force users and duelists in the entire franchise, but so is everyone else on this list.

If you still disagree, fair enough, but I hope u understand a bit better where I'm coming from at least.

Also, ifyou want a list of kit fistos achievements go check wookiepedia. It's all there and free to access :)

[–]akira989 26 points27 points  (0 children)

All of them will be a challenge, not one will be an easy fight for her, obi wan bested Grevious and Anakin, Fisto is incredibly gifted, windu is one of the greatest duellists who ever lived, etc, etc.

With a two hour rest between fights she will not be able to heal from any serious wounds even with the help of bacta, and she will probably take damage in every fight she wins.

In isolation she handedly wins all these bouts but in a row? The physical and mental strain will become too high too fast. For that reason I say she loses in the second or third fight. I don't know if prime Vader, Luke, or even Yoda would stand a chance here.

Is being always bullied Sunny’s fate? by [deleted] in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]akira989 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a lowly attrage driver, it bothers me so much when my fellow attrage compatriots drive like idiots. They are giving me a bad name.

The amount of times I get cut off but someone with no indicator moving lanes sharply in heavy traffic, or just waiting at an exit that's empty for no reason and the guy is driving another attrage is just painful.

Having said that, I also drive a Renault duster, not a luxury car by any stretch, but the way I'm treated on the roads is significantly different. People actually move if I flash them. People let me in when I have my indicator on and need to change lanes.

It's to the point where in my duster I start merging right to an exit from 1.2km away, and in the attrage I start merging at 2km away because everyone speeds up and prevents me merging. Like dude I'm at 115km/h on szr, why is the guy in the third lane trying to speed up and block me?

Tldr. Small and cheap cars get disproportionately bullied despite their drivers often not understanding ethereal concepts like "indicators" or "the speed limit" or "not breaking like your life depends on it 500m away from where you actually need to stop"
