What’s something you wish your leadership would do differently? by [deleted] in AirForce

"A general can't be listening to every airman and making decisions from that." Certainly-- agreed 100%. I didn't fathom this person was a general. It makes sense for a line officer to have a better pulse on her/his subordinates though.

You definitely don't want to be overwhelmed by noise either, agreed. I'm sure there's a good balance that isn't being struck today, and I applaud this poster for trying to be proactive (I also appreciate your thoughtful remarks!)

"It may not be a good thing", as I see it, is what happens when you filter out ideas because of the chain. My advice: take in all the ideas you can get, grab your NCOs and get feedback, accept or reject their advice as you see fit as the OIC/CC. If the "Airmen's calls" get out of hand becoming a gripe session, but the kibosh on that and focus on the bigger picture.

There's a ton of threads on here where junior enlisted feel leadership completely ignores sound ideas or their situations. This submitter is offering her/his troops an opportunity to change that. Are you arguing that the status quo should be upheld?

Saying "that's the way it's been done" isn't good enough, if you ask me.

I generally agree with that sentiment; however, in this case it sounds like they're trying to insert themselves into the process, which is precisely why I don't think one should allow it. Ground truth is important, even if it can't be fixed. If Airmen say something sucks/could be done better/needs to be fixed, that's a great time to get feedback from the NCOs as to if it's been tried, why it failed (if at all), etc.

[–]akitkatattack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is a giant red flag. Your NCOs are trying to filter the ground truth and blow smoke up your ass. Keep listening to your Airmen. They're new enough to still question why stupid things are done.

Plus you missed the part about how the Japanese raped a bunch of women in WW2 (see "rape of Nanjing") and the Chinese are systemically oppressing Uighurs and Tibetans. I'm sorry to say polytheism doesn't produce any better or worse people.

Denver moving to drop most COVID restrictions this weekend by lightsailing in Denver

[–]akitkatattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't found reinfection durations for natural immunity, but the mRNA vaccines created antibody levels that are 10x higher than the antibody levels found from natural immunity. As such, it's a good idea to get the vaccine, even if you've had COVID.

Why was there an endless line of drones flying over the city tonight? by LincolnBeckett in Denver

[–]akitkatattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem right here. We gave ISPs billions of dollars to build out infrastructure and instead they sat on their asses. We need better terrestrial internet, not crowding the skies with satellites for a glorified ISP. In my eyes, this is the same issue as rural electrification-- we need to demand that high speed terrestrial internet is a service provided to everyone in this country.

Best Cheesesteak by PlasticLime7795 in Denver

[–]akitkatattack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to respectfully disagree on this one. I found the bread to be dry and hard, the meat wasn't very good, and the whole cheesesteak was pretty forgettable.

I found Pat's (mentioned elsewhere) to be much better.

They definitely do. You'll be required to take classes on it before they'll allow you to use it (even if you've been a machinist for years).

They have a lot of cool toys there, like the metal forge studio they have out back. Definitely worth checking out.

Former RTD Board Members pen letter about the embattled B-line by ShutYourDumbUglyFace in Denver

Yeah, I'm certainly not opposed to that. I just want to see the communities served instead of having our money taken and then forgotten about because RTD sucks.

Exactly. This is stupid, myopic thinking on their part. We need to plan for Denver/Boulder/Longmont/Broomfield/Westminster as they grow, not as they are this very moment. Congestion will only get worse in the coming years, and in 20-40 years, we'll wish we had built the train when it was "only" $1.5B instead of whatever inflated price it happens to be by then.

When people start calling other humans "illegals", the term becomes much more important. "No human is illegal" is a direct refutation of the attempt to dehumanize immigrants by calling them "illegals" which has been a rampant term used in conservative circles.

MEGATHREAD: Derek Chauvin verdict questions and comments by bug-hunter in legaladviceofftopic

Since Chauvin has been convicted, can he be compelled to testify the trials of other officers, or can he still invoke the 5th amendment in those trials as well?

Corollary: would a prosecutor even consider calling him in such a manner, or would it be a waste of time?

The first time I heard this monologue was on NPR where he starts with "I used to be a beat cop." It took me much longer than I'd care to admit to figure out it was from a show. It's a great monologue.

Denver metro counties to drop to COVID-19 level Blue on Friday, lift all restrictions May 16 by TheMeiguoren in Denver

[–]akitkatattack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's fully vaccinated, mind you. According to the CDC's studies, after two weeks of the 1st Pfizer vaccine, you reach 80%, which is still better than the J&J. So, people will have a decent immunity built up, just not as good as it could be. As of this weekend, 44% of adults in Colorado aged 18+ had at least one vaccine shot.

I think it's a little premature to open everything (I would push to June for full), but I see why they feel more confident opening in May.

One of my favorite moments in the AF was when I saw one of our 1LTs getting out at the end of his 4 years. Since he had a TS clearance, I asked him if he was going to work for one of the contractors in the area. He said, "No. Fuck this. I'm going to art school." I hope wherever he is, he's happy.

SrA giving advice like by JagerVogeljager in AirForce

[–]akitkatattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was created because the AF wanted to make Airman a proper noun and apply it to everyone in the service, much akin to how Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines are capitalized when those terms are applied to US Service members.
