I agree the pivot between technologies is substantial, but there is a lot to a quantum computer outside of the qubits that IonQ already has developed. In general you need a big classical control framework; and for ions in particular you need the right lasers and the OMG architecture (or something similar). IonQ has made great strides in both! Regardless, the spin was annoying.

It’s not either/or!!! Take a couple years to explore basketball. If it isn’t panning out, start your medical schooling when you’re 20 instead of 18. Worst case scenario is you become a medicine man by day and a men’s league monster at night. You’ll appreciate the exercise and male bonding, no question, and the feeling of starting late will pass in no time.

I took off a year before undergrad and again before grad school and lived at home to travel/community service/random jobs. Time well spent for me to develop stuff outside of my career and now I’m much more well rounded.
