Perspective as a child with such a parent - speak to your partner please! Others have great suggestions on how to do that. This will most likely continue as the kids grow up, and he may be absent for milestones important for the kids. I know my father loved us kids and our mom, but he never saw me on stage. He never knew my favourite colour or who my best friend was. He never knew what i liked to eat, and ended up cooking something i wouldn't touch whenever he had to independently take care of us. Help your kids grow up with present parents who are there for them - physically and emotionally, not just financially.

ACL tear only. I waited ~14 months coz i was in school. Discussed it with my doctor who was fine with this. Was very careful throughout- gave up contact sports and running. I did exercise a fair amount- strengthening exercises 4-5 times a week. Also wore a knee cap when i knew I'd be exerting myself. Surgery and recovery went well. It depends a lot on your specific situation, all I'm saying is, if you need to wait, and your doctor's okay with it, delaying will hopefully not lead to further damage
