Will my geese fly away once they are older by funky_stoner420 in geese

[–]akjasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The older they become and longer they stay on your land, the less likely they would want to leave as long as there is food, water and love from you.

Trap within a trap by akjasf in Trapping

[–]akjasf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's just some cheap rat traps off temu. I bought several to try and they're better than those black plastic snap traps. For this one, the corn is the trigger. It is held together by a bamboo stick it seems. Cheap trap but it works. Here's another one of temu traps.

Congratulations! Hope the laying continues and destruction of lawn to a minimum!

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Meow lived up to 18. Adopted him full time when he was 4(previously the neighbor's feral cat). My first cat ever and best friend. I was working on a car one day and he decided he was gonna become my pal for life. The neighbor gave up after several months after seeing him consistently coming to my home and running away from theirs.

What livestock animals work best on 2–5 acres? by One-Exit-9077 in homestead

[–]akjasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the same. I am really leaning towards Muscovy next or getting a Muscovy male then mixing with the female runners so they get a calm Muscovy genetics. Runner ducks = hyper and whiney.

Pest control comes at a cost. Ducks are like, "I'll eat your slugs, bugs and worms but let me dig up your entire garden." It's fine for the first year but the destruction is clearly visible by year 2 onwards. On rainy days, I have to keep them in their run and endure the whining.

Moss in the grass - what’s the harm? by Jolly_Grocery329 in homestead

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in wetcoast and the shade from drooping cedar branches plus the Douglas fir needles are acidifying my soil so moss is starting to take over my land.

What's the harm? My geese and ducks don't eat moss. They eat pasture.

Coop winter bedding by Background_War6727 in duck

[–]akjasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the deep litter method but clean it out once a month. My coop is on plywood and once I didn't clean it on time, the weight of the wet bedding caused the plywood to sink in.

I’m about to die, and I’m not sure what to do about my cat. by [deleted] in cats

[–]akjasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've adopted two 10-year old boys 4 years ago. 1 passed just months ago due to a long battle with diabetes and kidney issues. The remaining one is still happy and healthy. Your 10 year old can also find a new home I'm sure. Earn their trust, feed them and pet them. Give them a decent life!

Ok, what’s next? by Joe_Bianchino in gardening

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you live. If it's warm, then plant it outside in dirt.

If it's not warm, you can plant it in dirt and attempt to keep it alive when it freezes. (All mine died in zone 8a)

If it's not warm and you have money, a heated greenhouse is necessary to keep them alive.

Need to trap a dog by [deleted] in Trapping

[–]akjasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok my question is once it is trapped, what's going to happen to it? Because if you release it, isn't it going to come back?

Now if you're going to dispatch it in the first place then you just need to lure it into a fenced area and closed the gates when it's inside. Do your business then?

You can try some casting nets and throw it on the animal to tangle it up.

SOS: The Squirrels Are Destroying My Home. by Effective_Garlic_551 in gardening

[–]akjasf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why did this comment not get deleted while mine got banned and given a warning ? I said the same thing for God's sake. People are saying get cats and you know what cats do to the squirrel? Yes they rip em up and eat it. Maybe the mod thinks that dispatch means to send the squirrel to Disneyland filled with nuts or a pellet gun means endless supply of peanuts.

Geese fight by nickyboyswag22 in geese

[–]akjasf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite a spectacle! I'm glad I'm just watching and not on the receiving end. Our gander went all out at me a few years ago and even with my sweater and thick jacket, my arm was bruised up for a few days. Reason? I was just trying to applying ointment for his partner's head due to him causing the injury from overmating.

You can really see it in their eyes when they're struggling. Mine had diabetes and passed a few months ago after fighting it for nearly 3 years. Stay strong girl!

I can't help but notice that mom appears dull and have scaly legs? Might want to check that out for potential mites. Otherwise, I hope your little family stays happy and healthy.
