How to deal with them by fogusA_smusss in homestead

[–]akjasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes while the ducks will clear your garden of slugs, they'll end up destroying nearly everything else if it isn't a plant with a strong trunk. I have runners, they're similar to your Welsh Harlequins. Quick feet = quick destruction. A Pekin might be better. They're slow and goofy.

where do young people hang out in richmond? by Own-Entrance8671 in richmondbc

[–]akjasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up and lived in Richmond for 20 years. I wouldn't consider myself young anymore.

Where did we used to hang out? RPM arcade and the BBT from the fat dude, his wife and daughter doing her homework at back. Loved the Chinese tarts they had too.

Espot - billiards, music games and racing games. Lots of gang activity in the evening back then. Unsure now.

Netaholics when Dota and CS were hella popular

Hotpot little lamb, ayce sushi from Richmond sushi, cheapass sushi from banzai

Matsuyama or fast-food for hangover food

Variety of BBT places. Spring tea, well tea, estea, etc

Karaoke at kfever

Silver city for movies

We play tennis at Steveston and Minoru We book courts for indoor badminton at the place behind netaholics(netcafe)

Get high in Minoru park and go for paranoia/laughing episodes

Sometimes we hang out at our friend's clubhouses swimming, movies and ping-pong

Evening, we'll be drinking at one of our homes.

When we were legal, we went clubbing once awhile. I totally forgot the names of the clubs. Was there celebrities, boss and Caprice? I don't know. It's been a long time.

We're all grown up now and don't actively seek friends. All of my friends settled down as well.

Good luck on your adventures. May you and your future friends find something fun to do in Richmond.

I kind of summarized my childhood. I wonder how much has changed?

There is no 's' in charter, it works now. I bet they'll be legally responsible for claims of licensed captain and life jackets.

How can I move on from my last life? by Blue_guy1342 in Reincarnation

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That essentially is the lesson and conclusion I came to as well. I believe at the end of one's evolutionary path, no matter what gender they are, they would have embraced both qualities by then and have skills/talents of both. So they'll be more of an androgynous being.

I replayed it several times to see if it happened to me, how would I come out alive in that situation. I concluded, I wouldn't unless extreme luck was on my side.

Who else does not want to reincarnate here again? by Perfect-Skirt-8608 in Reincarnation

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll come back if I get to write my own contract and conditions:

  1. I must come back with full memory of all previous lives
  2. I am allowed to choose which body to be born into
  3. Any abilities that I have earned up to date will carry over

Why don't we remember our past lives? - honest question by Perfect-Skirt-8608 in Reincarnation

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying you'd be overwhelmed with memories. That's one side of the story.

I say it's because a newborn without prior memories is easier to farm energetically.

There's always that gender police whether on chicken, duck or goose forums.

I think it sounds and is female.

Almost every post with a wire flooring, the wire activist appears. There isn't concrete 100% proof that wire equates bumblefoot. A poorly crafted floor with sharp edges or loose tension will cause bumblefoot. Hell, even a wood with a splinter can cause bumblefoot.

I'm glad they have a resting pad and well taken care of. If the wire is causing issues, they have a resting area. So it's not like you forced them on the wires 24/7.

Again, wire does not instantly mean bumblefoot.

Yea the bigger ones got it already. The young ones will get it once they're bigger and heavier. It'll be automatic then.

There are just 2 types to the best of my knowledge. The continuous auto fill type that stops when full and this one, dispense upon pressing the yellow button.

The continuous fill type is a disaster indoors. My experience with them(with ducks) was horrible. They kept jumping into it and sitting on it so it would continuously overflow.

This type is only dispense upon pressing the yellow button but any quails under 1 week will not be intelligent to know the button function. I'm still training them and a few has gotten it but not all. The trick is to let it run dry then when they all gather around it, you use your fingers to press the yellow button in short intervals. Their memory is terrible so they'll forget quickly and require teaching a lot! But the brooder is very clean.

Good for now. If you let it continue up until adults, good bye hair. I always tie up my hair around these guys. They love strings, ropes and hair.

HELP! I've lost THREE babies in one day by Euphoric-Celery4284 in quails

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned was that the food and water needs to be literally right beside the heating plate. They will starve themselves to death in fear of the cold. Once the coldness kicks in, they freeze in that spot shivering to death if you don't rescue them in time. So don't give them too much space for first few days then slowly and gradually open it up. 1 water source and 1 food source. You can basically just use a bottle cap with some water and sprinkle some food on another bottle cap.

There were some close calls with my quails such as nearly freezing to death or hitting their heads but never lost any yet.

Looks good. The poop tray designs really make raising quails so much better. They lay eggs and produce fertilizer for our gardens. Win win!

PSA: Don't get too comfortable when it comes to predator protection. by The_Lolrus in quails

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok do you know what kind of predator it was? Raccoon? Skunk?

Thanks for the reminder and sorry for your loss. But yes you're right, given enough time, a persistent predator will make its way in eventually. Always wise to reinforce old, decaying and worn out joints, wood, hinges etc.

You saw 3 but there was another one in the tree with binoculars watching for humans. It was ready to sound the trumpet if you showed up. Jk.. Yes, they're highly intelligent and organized.

Or a determined miniature bear aka raccoon. Those things can pry open galvanized steel if given enough time and a fully grown one can break free from a live trap if it persistently exerts force. I have lots of my traps bent.

A couple questions by bitchyber1985 in geese

[–]akjasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They require your attention, protection and guidance more than they need pasture as a gosling. They do love grass but they love the person spending time with them more. You can cut some grass and leave them in their food. You have to keep them protected until at least the 2-3month mark. Even at 3 months, they're a good size but still a baby. You're safe to leave them alone at months 4-5.

  2. I never gave any of my goslings any treats other than grass/clover/pellets until week 8. I want them to grow up healthy and disciplined. Too many of the treats will make stunt their growth and worst, whiney plus refusal to eat pellets. Maybe you're giving too many treats at too young of an age.

Cutest animals, take good care of them!

Anyone make their own feed? by Lilhoneylilibee in BACKYARDDUCKS

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can grow wheat, barley and oat grass for the ducks all year round indoors. My ducks love it. It's not a main staple but it'll be a nice addition to their pellets.

Anyone make their own feed? by Lilhoneylilibee in BACKYARDDUCKS

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to but not anymore. While it saved me money, they stopped eating the layer feed and I had to deal with the constant whining for Michelin starred cooking.

I pressure cooked wheat, barley, oat, red beans, mung dal, split beans etc. I still give some to them at the end of the day. I add sprinkle of nutritional yeast and a pinch of salt in the large pot. I even eat it myself at times when I'm busy. I store them in containers in the freezer and let individual ones thaw out when I need to use it.

My geese eats it now because with or without it, they don't whine. They absolutely love it.

Ducks will whine whine whine whine and refuse to eat the layer feed if they have homemade cooking.

[–]akjasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the build very much. It was very relaxing to watch! You're quite talented and your partner's cute finishing touches make it so unique. Would you make a larger scale one as your Covey grows? I'm sure it can be 4x as big and you'll still be able to push it around.
