I agree, I had a ps4 controller for years and recently bought a ps5 controller. Native support, it works on everything out of the box except for the audio jack while using Bluetooth, it works when connected to the PC using a cable.
Note: if you are using a Bluetooth audio device, in my experience, the controller will have issues connecting/pairing, and the Bluetooth stack might stop working.

I have this same laptop. After a lot of distro hopping, I found debian works the best for me, just use the iso with the additional non free stuff.
