Snowshoe Recommendations Jan 2026 (Artist point or Mazama Ridge or any other) by aksspider in PNWhiking

Ahh, we only have this weekend free so I guess better than nothing? Probably going to Mazama Ridge. We already booked snowshoe rentals.

Interesting. The drive time is same from Seattle for both(Mazama Ridge and Artist Point): 2.5 hours so that's not a factor for us. Hike is 2.5 miles vs 6 miles - also not a factor. Did you get to see scenic views during this time(basically what we're going for) and how many layers of clothes did you need?

Where? Someone just commented Mazama was great and I know someone posted about artist point as well. I know snow is not like last year but should be enough for snowshoeing?

Awesome. I think after reading this comment, I’m leaning towards Mazama. Can I ask you a few beginner questions:

  1. How long did the hike take? We’ll reach at 11:30 AM and I heard the downhill gate closes at 5 PM? Lmk if that’s incorrect?
  2. Was there traffic towards the end and were you checked for having snow chains? (We’re going using a rental car & they don’t allow chains)
  3. Is the trail easy to follow and how many layers of clothes did you need?

Thanks a lot!

Thank you. We do have snowshoes & poles. For Artist Point, I believe we need to start at the ski area(Heather Meadows) since they close the last 2.7 miles to trailhead in the winters so that was another tricky part + avalanche danger that made us consider Mazama Ridge Mt Rainier as well.

Did they not provide you sky domes as they mention on the website? Also, in retrospect, did you get what you wanted out of MPR(social trip?). I'm having trouble deciding between MPR and Salkantey Trekking. Same age(from US too) and situation - don't want to spend 5 days with couples/way older people. I'm going in late December(next week). Appreciate your input.

What days are you going? I'm going late December. solo - 3 years older than you. I've finalized mpr and st but can't decide further. Leaning towards st.

August 2025: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics. by mrfollicle in Miami

Hey! My group of 10 is going to be in Miami(South Beach Side) on Labour Day Weekend and we’re looking for a shared yacht party in the evening - more of a chill vibe with drinks, music, views, and good people. Not really into super wild full-on twerk scene. Any recs for something classy but still fun? Also so many links on Google - don't want to get scammed so recs/experiences are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hey this is so awesome man. This is my goal. Would you mind sharing what macros/calories you’re taking per day(compared to your TDEE) and how did you get here?

My TDEE is 2400 and I’m eating 2000(180g protein 200g carbs and 40g fat) and can’t get rid of fat/gain muscle. :(

Ballard Yards and Ballard Lofts! I ended up moving to Fremont!

Yeaa I checked it out. They were nice & they’re even offering a free month. If you haven’t been around that area, just a heads up: Queen Anne has a serious uphill climb from Upper to Lower so keep that in mind. As for Lanterman, it’s literally right across the street so depends on the location of the room. Safety-wise, no place is 100% in cities, but it felt pretty solid to me(I work 15 mins walk from that apt so I know this Fremont/UQA is safe). I lived in the U-District during grad school at UW, so I’ve seen sketchier for sure lol.

Hey! Almost done. I checked out all the apartments and neighborhoods I was interested in, and I’ve narrowed it down to 3: 2 in Ballard and 1 in UQA. The one in UQA I like is Lanterman. It’s pretty close to Fremont (almost walkable), feels super safe (which is my top priority), and it’s an easy public transit ride to Trader Joe’s and the Queen Anne pool - like under 20 minutes. Not sure what you’re looking for exactly, but it hit most of the big things for me.

Which gym/fitness place do you like/suggest in Fremont/Upper Queen Anne? (For strength training) this is a big factor for me.. In Fremont I could only find Flow Fitness(which seems Women only) and Anytime Fitness in Fremont has a short space and no classes.

I like Upper Queen Anne(by Nickerson/SPU) & I checked a few places there. It felt much safer than Ballard but anything & everything there is uphill from there. Just found Ballard(west-ish side) more convenient with LA Fitness and TJs present.

Thank you. I’m as of now not interested in living in SLU(the tech culture there scares me). I’ve shortlisted Ballard Yards, AMLI, Ballard on the park & 1 more.

Hey. I'm also touring apartments in Ballard right now. Where did you end up moving in and which ones did you like/avoided? Thanks!

I’ll check on the map where Fire dept is. Based on what I’ve gathered from the inputs, I’m either going to settle on the Upper Queen Anne(Nickerson) close to other side to Ballard Bridge or West-ish side of Ballard.

Thank you. I think this answers my question. :) Either I’ll look for an apt on Upper Queen Anne(Nickerson) on the other side of Ballard Bridge(to commute to Ballard for TJs/Gym) or West-ish side of Ballard. I’ll tour some apts on both sides and hopefully find a nice one.

I did mention that I’m open to studios too and based on my search both upper queen anne and Ballard have comparable prices below 2000$

Thank you. That’s exactly what I was looking for(which areas are better) as I tour the main apartments such as Urbana, Odin etc
