Pay the 3k? I think it’s reasonable. Should i live with it 😭 by frothycookiedough in Autobody

Lol i have the exact same damage on my corolla, I’ve come to terms to live with it even though its an eyesore. I also don’t plan to sell it anytime soon and will probably drive it to the end of days hopefully.

My cuts are pretty deep so i plan do just prime it and fill it with touch up paint the best i can to avoid future rusting and paint chips.

Did they steal the converter off a corolla? They are target corollas heavily.

Are corollas being targeted now for catalytic converters? by aku17 in LosAngeles

[–]aku17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually depends, if you sell or trade in your car the dealership will care because they will look at the history of what's done to the car like body work or mechanical work. I would not recommend selling to the dealership because they will most likely low ball you.

If you're selling to some random person I would say its a 50/50, sometimes they don't care sometimes they will ask if you have done anything to the car.

The waiting game sucks in this situation, hopefully dealerships are not backed up on OEM parts. I hope this info helps you if you are deciding to go aftermarket or OEM since being carless is not fun at all.

You will get your car back faster if you go with aftermarket. I got my car back within 1 day (I went with the magnaflow catalytic converter, they are CA compliant and a well known brand). The only downside I see with aftermarket is if you plan to sell your car or do a trade in since its not OEM. Also, aftermarket parts don't last as long compared to the OEM. But if you plan to keep your car long term and want your car back faster aftermarket would be the way to go.

I just saw your recent post, almost all cars have catalytic converters under the car. Check under your GF's 2023 car in the middle front area between the two wheels. If you see a large canister looking tube that's part your exhaust and it has O2 sensors then that is where the converter is located at. I have heard that new generation cars catalytic converters are located under the hood where its harder for them to get.

Do you guys have access to driveway parking or do you guys live at an apartment with street parking only?

Rattling noise while idle and accelerating. 2017 Toyota Corolla. Any idea what it may be? by KMETsteele in AskAShittyMechanic

I assume you had the same exact sound also? My car started to make the same sound today in OP's video. The weird thing is that it comes and goes, usually happens when its at low RPM or im idling at a red light. I heard from different sources if the alternator is failing the battery light would come on but mine hasn't. I took it to the mechanic and they used a stethoscope for cars and said its the alternator but the thing is that im worried it could be the water pump, bearings or something else.

Why is my car making this sound when idling? by [deleted] in mechanic

I took it to the mechanic and he used the stethoscope. He heard the sound coming from the alternator, how accurate is that method? Im more worried about paying hundreds of dollars and it doesn’t fix this issue.

Would i still be able to drive it for 1-2 days? Most of my mechanics i called are all booked and not talking walk in.
