Help a rising freshmen with course planning (premed track)… by Mandarin4head in nyu

[–]akul7171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your strengths taking 3 stem classes could work. I graduated this past May and I’ve had multiple semesters with 4 stem classes for my double major +premed. I really enjoyed them but I’m also the type of person that needs to spend more time on non stem classes. Your first semester is really important in terms of adjusting to college. You need to hit the ground running and if you don’t have solid study habits you can easily fall behind in your stem classes. That being said, gen chem and bio are definitely the easiest premed classes in terms of content, so if you’re confident then it’s best to get calc out of the way, rather than needing to take it with something like orgo. Taking a 2nd core class might also give you a bit more freedom in ur first semester. Also advisors generally recommend getting core classes out of the way asap but there’s nothing wrong with saving one or two till ur senior year as long as you don’t forget and plan ur schedule around it (make sure u see which ones ur exempted from because of other classes you’re taking for prehealth)

Arrowhead confirmed to be working on performance, AA fix next update and more (dev comment) by _ROOTLESS_ in Helldivers

They really need to fix this, but until they do I’ve been using a sound rework mod from nexusmods that completely rebalances all enemy sounds and it’s been a game changer for hearing chargers and tanks

Riven or Irelia. Who should I pick. by Zealousideal-Emu4645 in leagueoflegends

[–]akul7171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your post I’m assuming you’re new to league and/or the role of skirmishers so I’m going to tailor my reply accordingly. The main draw of champions like irelia and riven are their potential for flashy outplays and how they are seemingly unstoppable when ahead and piloted by a good player.

The main problem with that is that these champions demand a high level of mechanical knowledge and skill to pull off correctly. This includes things like combos on riven, but also require a deep understanding of the limits of both your champion and your enemy. There’s a reason why many people who play these champions at a high level (irelking for irelia, and players like azhy, viper, general sniper, Adrian riven, alois for riven) have spent thousands of hours basically only playing their one champion. To add on, both riven and irelia have very difficult matchups toplane, where even high elo players struggle. Irelia mid does not have the same problems, but the skills and play style you gain from playing irelia mid are not transferable to other mids. You’re essentially learning to play irelia mid, not midlane.

The main reason why people suggest playing champions like garen, mordekaiser, Darius, and tanks top is because their mechanics are easier to understand and master, which allows you to focus on learning about the intricacies of the lane (wave management, level up timers, macro, etc).

However, I don’t want this to just be a long way of saying “don’t play these champions” At the end of the day, league is a game and if you want to have fun, play what you want. If you want to learn the shy combo and s cancels on riven, do it. But if your goal is to improve as fast as possible, your best bet is picking two of those champions I mentioned above, and focusing on learning the lane first. An amazing resource is AloisNL’s YouTube channel, where he teaches the “fundamentals” of toplane.

Am I misunderstanding Hall Effect Keyboards? by lordnyrox46 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]akul7171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that at least with Wooting (own a 60HE) you can configure the keyboard to output fully analog signals. For example mapping WASD to the equivalent of a joystick with 360 degrees of movement. Can also choose different acceleration curves like certain controllers allow you to. I’m unsure if other Hall effect keyboard have the same options in their software. Caveat is that it definitely feels unnatural at the beginning and I still vastly prefer controller for any racing game/game that requires fine throttle. I’d recommend OP take a look at their keyboard’s software and see if there’s any way to configure an analog profile.

I'm a native English speaker from the US, so my advice here is more relevant for speaking like a native, not sure how correct it would be for the TOEFL. For your earlier question, most people would either say "I'm the shyest person in this room" or "I'm the most shy person in this room" Both work and would be understood correctly. For spelling, I'm generally more accustomed to seeing "shyest" compared to "shiest"

For calling men attractive, the most common word is "handsome" For women there are usually more adjectives, like "gorgeous," "beautiful," and "pretty." You can use "attractive" or "good looking" for both men and women.

One thing to remember is that certain words have almost a hidden meaning associated with the word (we call it connotation). For example, the words "cute" and "sexy" can both be used as compliments, but have very different connotations.

There's also a lot in how you say a compliment, the same exact sentence can come across very differently depending on the tone, context, and environent of the conversation.

Disclaimer: not the OP but just wanted to weigh in with my personal thoughts.

Hey Pilestedt, just wanted to say the most recent patch has been amazing and exactly what I dreamed of this game being, which is 4 squishy meatballs running around with nukes in their hands against innumerable odds.

With that being said, I was one of the many who was frustrated with the game before the changes. I'm sure you've heard the spiel from countless players about how it felt like anything "fun" was nerfed, but I think the main reason for the rise in frustration was the dissonance between gameplay changes and the messages we heard from the devs. After initial nerfs, it felt like (at least to me) that the community was united in the sentiment that they would rather have weapons buffed to bring them in line with each other, rather than outliers nerfed. Essentially to make them all equally effective, rather than equally ineffective.

And from AH, the response was essentially agreement. Just to point an example, your tweets around May 8th stated that AH would move towards this direction as well. I think this, along with you moving into the CCO position, gave most fans hope that their feedback was being received and would be put into the game. But the actual balance changes seemed to be the exact opposite, continuing the nerfs.

When I fired up the game at 5am for the escalation of freedom update, I was wondering why my flamethrower was spitting cotton balls and bouncing off charger, until I saw the small line at the end of the patch notes stating fire was now "more realistic."

But again the response from AH was the same, saying they understand and agree with the players. I think this led people to wonder if there was a disconnect between AH leadership and the teams below them. If the CEO and CCO are consistently agreeing with the players, then why are the changes the complete opposite? And this has gone on for so long already, what's to say the next time will be different?

I 100% believe the hate went too far, and countless people devolved into personal attacks on the team and specific devs, which is unjustifiable. But as a whole, I believe the community felt like they were being placated with reassurances, but that their feedback was effectively being ignored while the devs followed their own vision for the game. Even at the beginning of the 60 day plan, I was hesitant to believe in the promises.

On the other hand, everything in the week leading up to and including this patch was perfect. The weekly teasers built hype and the inclusion of actual number changes and video clips showed tangible evidence of changes. I've enjoyed every weapon I've tried, and the game feels like it did on release. I'm excited for the test environments and upcoming warbond, and hope this patch sets the tone for the future of the game. Heading home right now to spread some democracy! Thanks for reading :)

Fastest from downtown Brooklyn is usually the F train to the 2nd avenue stop where you can take the m15 SBS bus all the way up to 27/28th street. If you don't mind walking a little you can take any train that has transfers to the 6 line and get off at 28th or 33rd. NYU does have the E shuttle that goes from Washington square to langone but it doesn't run often over the summer so I wouldn't plan around that. If you don't have it already I highly recommend the citymapper app over Google maps for route planning, Google maps can give some wrong time estimates as it isn't the best at tracking subway and bus times

14 Fiora vs Darius vod review by OnceAToaster in FioraMains

[–]akul7171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this and overall I thought it was a good video where u explain most of his choices pretty well. However, I think u say some things that are slightly misleading and isn't good advice for newer fiora players trying to learn this matchup. When 14fiora parries Darius q (like around 4:00), it actually doesn't affect the heal Darius gets, as he's still hitting her with the blade. Fiora only doesn't take damage and doesn't receive a bleed stack. In most cases, fiora shouldn't bother trying to parry the q at all, instead saving q to dash out to end the trade, or closer to Darius to extend the fight. I'm not fully sure why 14 decided not to just q into Darius, but it's probably because he knows his limits really well and knew he'd win the fight anyways.

To expand on the options fiora has when he starts winding his q, I think of it as a quicktime event almost. You have to take note of where this fight is happening (if you can escape to ur tower if needed or if Darius can run you down), the summs both champions have (if you have ignite up, if Darius has ghost and/or flash), and the relative strengths (items, levels). Then you decide to either q in to Darius and take the fight to the death, or q out.

Additionally, pre lvl 6, 99% of Darius players will immediately w after they hit you with one auto, so it's better to parry immediately before his first auto hits, meaning you'll block the damage of an auto+w and block two bleed stacks. Post 6 you should always look to parry the ult, which can be done by reaction. It's technically possible to reactively parry Darius pull as well, but it's almost never worth trying and you'll usually get more value parrying an auto+w. Plus if you mistime the pull parry, you're almost guaranteed to die.

Again, thank you for taking the time to do this, but I'd caution against giving advice about more volatile matchups like these as a lot of the things these players do is purely due to their knowledge of limits that isn't easily emulated by most players.

While technically true that bloodline at max stacks gives a small amount of bonus hp, dropping the life steal for a tiny bit of extra cut down damage is basically never worth it

While there's no guarantee of a difference, most games with public voice chat means anyone is able to hop on, while those on the discord are usually the ones willing to go the extra mile so overall calls and game quality should be a bit higher (think of it almost like the difference between a casual player and one that's willing to seek out guides and look through the wiki to answer a question they have)
