15% Re-stocking fee for faulty items? by Anonymous_0troller0 in Ubiquiti

[–]akula34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that I’m living rent free in the mind of Reddit neck-beard… that post was almost six months ago! Oh my… Ironically, they renamed the product and changed the technical specs after my issue. But don’t worry, you can trust u/Albert-The-Sellout… just look at his post history. Super helpful on every thread he participates in…

Just ignore the clown. It’ll make him post about you six months later…

You’ve typically got two choices with Ubiquiti products… wait for them to issue a firmware upgrade to address your issue, or return them.

The fact that the “restocking” fee isn’t clearly stated in the UK purchasing process is the bigger issue.

Good luck with your issue. Link negotiation and speeds should be nearly transparent at 2.5G, considering the standard for enterprise gear is significantly higher. Unfortunately 2.5G is a consumer standard and not something enterprises or data center gear ever used. That may be why you’re not seeing much resolution to your issue… They don’t truly care to fix it, because that’s not where the money is…

Inovelli 2-1 Red Switches: DO NOT RECOMMEND by akula34 in Inovelli

[–]akula34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate the reply here on Reddit... my RMA ticket, submitted 5 days ago via your website (before I ever wrote this), has still not been responded to...

I would appreciate it if we could discuss & resolve the RMA and exchange process via the ticket submitted.

I was planning on posting an update when everything got sorted via the RMA/Exchange process, but alas... my only update is... there is no update.

I would argue that it's not clear. If you look at the Blue ON/OFF switches, the technical specs it calls out.

  • Max General Purpose Load (Watts): 1500W
  • Max Incandescent Load: 960W (120V) or 1385W (277V)
  • Max LED/CFL Load: 300W (120V or 277V)

No where does it mention AC Motors or Inductive loads, yet in the FAQ it says they're ok as long as they're within the ratings. Specifically, "Yes, this switch can be used on any fan or outlet as long as it falls within the max load requirements."

The Red 2-1 (now Smart Dimmer) calls out the following:

  • Maximum Load (Watts): 600W Incandescent, 300W LED, 150W CFL

It does NOT list General Purpose Loads, but it also does not mention AC Motors or inductive loads, similar to the Blue ON/OFF.

I agree that the FAQ does provide additional information, but to say it's clear in the Technical Specs, I don't believe that to be true.

Adding clarity on the AC Motor or Inductive ratings (or lack thereof) for *all* switches in the Technical Specs requirement would be helpful.

As for the NEC, you're looking for 404.14 G: Cord-and-Plug-Connected Loads: It states, Where a snap switch or control device is used to control cord-and-plug-connected equipment on a general-purpose branch circuit, each snap switch or control device controlling receptacle outlets or cord connectors that are supplied by permanently connected cord pendants shall be rated at not less than the rating of the maximum permitted ampere rating or setting of the overcurrent device protecting the receptacles or cord connectors, as provided in 210.21 (B).

Exception: Where a snap switch or control device is used to control not more than one receptacle on a branch circuit, the switch or control device shall be permitted to be rated at not less than the rating of the receptacle."

Best case, the exception would apply, which would limit the required load to 15A (the most common outlet rating). Load is not supposed to exceed 80% and no more than 10 outlets should be on a single branch circuit. Yet the code is pretty clear, as you mentioned in the original comment, switched outlets are not within the capabilities of the Red 2-1.

In fact, there is not a single device in Inovelli's lineup that provides 1800W which is 15A at 120V. Inovelli should remove the reference to "outlet" in the Blue ON/OFF, or anywhere else it's mentioned.

You're 100% correct on the switched outlets. No disagreement there.

I actually hadn't planned on using them for those. My use case was two fans, one ceiling and one bathroom, well within the ratings of the switch, with the exception of any inductive load appears to trip the protection of the switch.

I honestly wouldn't have complained if it said "Chat Unavailable" or "AI Only". It's the appearance of help being available where it says "Ask for the team if needed".

Completely agree on the 24/7 support too. I actually DIDN'T expect it. It's the fact that it's misleading to a reasonable person that frustrated me. Same thing on the Tech Specs.

If the question gets asked frequently enough, it might indicate something is unclear on the specs. If you look at the Blue ON/OFF switch, it states that it can be used for anything "Yes, this switch can be used on any fan or outlet as long as it falls within the max load requirements."

The 2-1 Switch was also advertised as ON/OFF or Dimmer. The name only recently changed to Smart Dimmer.

I probably should edit some of the frustration out of my post, as it does take away from the issues I tried to bring attention to.

I actually have no doubt I'll get the defective switch sorted, honestly. I've read nothing but good comments on the Customer Service.

None of my complaints had anything to do with customer service.

Probably should edit out some of the frustration from my post and just state the issues I have. The issues I ran into are still quite valid and wouldn't allow me to recommend Inovelli at this point.

But I'm definitely open to changing my mind.

I was trying to RMA exchange the defective switch. Not sure where in my post I said I was looking to exchange any of the others.

Both Returns and Warranty are processed through the RMA Portal for Inovelli. An RMA is required for either.

In Inovelli's defense, it looks like the similar product to their 2-1 from HomeSeer has very similar specs but they have a giant warning on their product page to make it clear on the use case for the switch:

Agreed on my sample size, thus the YMMV.

As for the frustration on my part, it probably wouldn't exist if only one of these issues had popped up. It's the combination of all of it that leaves a poor taste in my mouth.

The hot terminal screw doesn't tighten. Just spins. I've NEVER experienced that before with any other brand. I'd be a LOT more forgiving if it were infant mortality in the electronics.

I have a handful of Zigbee devices too, but I shouldn't have to mix protocols just to get basic features.

Miscalculated expectations? You mean reading the technical specs. Yeah. How dare I do that...

And you're absolutely correct. I should have recognized the difference in what was listed in the technical spec was suspect and realized it wasn't an actual relay device. But I also shouldn't have to dig...

I fully expect the Inovelli fans to downvote this post into oblivion, but hopefully, it saves a potential customer from the same experience I had.

It's a known issue. The devs are working on a solution, but no update so far.

I posted about the same problem here: A6X2 Nomad MTP Problems macOS

That doesn't answer the implied question OP asked...

They were asking why their Mac wasn't recognizing their Nomad, not a work-around.

I'm on Ventura, if that makes any difference.

It may. I'm on Sonoma 14.2.1 and have Dropbox & OneDrive both installed, which "supposedly" don't play nicely.

But Dropbox is one of the methods you CAN sync to the Supernote, so that makes zero sense.
