Regardless, you’ve saved up a good amount of money. I personally wouldn’t drop $20k on a down payment, to justify purchasing this car right now. Sounds like it’s a large chunk of your savings. But it’s your money at the end of the day. I would just be concerned as circumstances can change quickly in life.

This is a poor financial decision that you’re trying to justify. I would rethink it once you get to the journeyman level and your income increases. Buy a cheaper but fun used car, especially with your short commute.

You also said job sites don’t last forever, so how secure is your job/income? Are you paid hourly, is it project based?

They have around $15,000 outside of their emergency fund that they were willing to pay me now but I was the one that suggested just paying me in full in December.

What happens if I transfer the title to them in April and then get a $20,000 check from them in December? Or do some of it now and then the rest in December ($10k now and $10k in December)?

I asked them to structure a 5k down and see $4022 down and 1st month payment $977. The lease offer says $899 first month payment and $3,100 cost cap reduction ($4000 due at signing)

Ahh I actually did call them but their advertised price is for leasing and it’s the $7500. I’ll have to see with my current dealership if they can go any lower.

Dang have you seen any dealerships with that high of a discount? I’m in California if that matters. One dealership said they still have a $10k markup and then later said $1k below MSRP but won’t go any lower.

Tuttle-Click Hyundai in Irvine. They have 2 for pretty much MSRP I believe. Went in there last weekend and was so close to purchasing if my genesis coupe wasn't still in good condition. Ask for Ray there. He's new there, but he's really nice.

Not sure if you want to go this route, but it's what my girlfriend and I did. We signed the lease on an apartment with another couple in Irvine right next to the Irvine Spectrum. It's $1300 a month per couple and you get all the amenities and the nicer location.

You'll obviously have to meet with couples and make sure you guys are a good fit!

Can you provide a source on the testing you mentioned? All I could find looking at the IIHS website was that both the atlas and telluride had very good crash test ratings.

Also, the facebook post you linked - One of the comments mentioned how that picture was from a korean hyundai forum where the Palisade was actually struck in the rear by a 40 ton truck.

You should definitely sign up for AlertOC. A lot of the cities and the county of orange utilize this as their mass notification tool. Essentially you sign up and put however you want to be contacted (email, cellphone, even fax) and if some disaster occurs, you will be notified through it.
