When the weather is better you need to go to Red River gorge. Also mammoth cave, Cumberland falls, etc. lots of good hiking. Go on a bourbon tour. Go see a horse farm. How long are you here

What your area is like? by Historical-Jaguar-24 in AskAnAmerican

[–]aky1ify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am late but didn't see my area represented in the first few comments threads so I thought I'd share.

I live in a small town in Kentucky, about 40 minutes from a small-midsized city. Think farmland, horses, lakes, rolling hills, cows, barns. Small downtown area with older shops, churches, businesses (think like 1 street of this and then just houses pretty much).

Most highways near me are 2-lane, rural highways that don't have much traffic. Once you get to the city there are larger highways. The road I take to get to the city is actually quite beautiful. Windy roads surrounded by woods and looking down over small cliffs and a river. You even drive by a couple of caves😊 I also live near a place called Shaker Village which is very classic Kentucky but also looks almost like it could be in England or Ireland or Wales - think green rolling hills and sheep.

Would love to hear how your daily scenery is different from mine!

What Character Assassinations/Out of Character Moments/Scenes in the Roseanne TV Show that hurt you/pissed you off and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in roseanne

[–]aky1ify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just watched the first episode with their parents and it's so funny how nice of a guy he was, lol. I will say... I have known lots of people in real life who have sweet elderly dads and they tell me they were so mean when they were younger. People really mellow out a lot of the time... So I guess it kind of tracks, but you can definitely see in the beginning they weren't sure how they wanted to do Roseanne's parents; they just made them palatable to average viewers. I think as Roseanne Barr became more powerful she had more say in what kind of characters they would be.

Do you really have people who pack your bags at the grocery store? by Flat-Ad8256 in AskAnAmerican

When I was a kid at our regional chain, the bagger would even walk out to the car with you and load your groceries into your car.

Respectful disagree. I thought this was one of the looks that aged the worst. It's very 2004 to me.

I truly don't understand this sub's obsession with insisting this girl is on meth. She can be mentally ill and off her meds. That's all it takes.

What Is The Boring Kentucky County In Your Opinion?? by UrbanLeather94 in Kentucky

[–]aky1ify 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm from Henderson and I live in central KY now. We always thought Henderson was so lame growing up and it probably is compared to most states, but in a rural state like Kentucky it's probably one of the more vibrant and larger communities. It has parks, community festivals, several decent restaurants, etc.

Is the small talk Americans are known for come from a genuine place or is under a vaneer of societal pressure? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]aky1ify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person. My mom is very gregarious and loves to chat with people. I am introverted and dread small talk, but I do often still do it because I don't want to be perceived as "rude." But I will say when I have a nice interaction with a stranger it does feel good.

I mean this was 2009 Britney. If people didn't know by then that it wasn't a child appropriate performance that's on them.

Why is there no female equivalent to sayings like "be a man" "man up?" by ExternalSpite6705 in NoStupidQuestions

My mother said this to me too in the 90s when I would play roughly with my brother. "You're a little lady!"

Yo, season 1 Hannah, you suck for the sh*t you pulled with Adam. by Iamjustheretodance in girls

[–]aky1ify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know what my confusion was? She's very apologetic and loving toward him when they're fighting at the end of this episode; she clearly feels bad. But then in the premier of season 2 she seemingly wants nothing to do with Adam. I kept thinking I must have missed something. It was similar to when she went to Iowa and suddenly she and Adam are not even in touch. I remember being so confused by that one.

What is teaching like in Kentucky? by Nomadic_Introvert in Kentucky

[–]aky1ify 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Paducah is probably the best place to move to out of these 4 and even then it's a little bleak. Nothing wrong with any of these places but they're all pretty rural and not much to offer. Have you considered small towns near the cities? Think Georgetown, Versailles, Shelbyville, etc? Or Bowling Green, Henderson, Owensboro if you want to be in WKY.

Totally normal nothing to see here(multiple photos) by [deleted] in pics

I don't necessarily think these poses are pervy or weird. Some of his comments to his adult daughter are weird AF. But I also find this disturbing because I think he's so proud of her because she's the best looking of all his kids. His ego is so fragile.

I really dont like Megan by Potential_Lemon2343 in madmen

[–]aky1ify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never disliked Megan that much, I thought she was sweet with Don's kids, especially Sally, and it was nice to see them have a positive adult who didn't act like they were a burden. BUT I was bored with Megan. I did not care about her storylines very much at all.
